Jon Rudkin once thought £14m for Ademola Lookman was too much. He has since spent *£15.5m on Ayew, Golding, Édouard & Coulibaly, and over £20m on Oliver Skipp. We've been relegated 2x & got a points deduction for major PSR failings. He got a promotion, and the chairman laughed.

A huge crowd of Iranians assembles in Revolution Square in Tehran to express gratitude and love for Israel and the US, heralding them as liberators. Oh, it's actually to commemorate the new Iranian leader and condemn attacks by two foreign states:

The blatant Islamophobia that @Keir_Starmer is demonstrating through smearing @MothinAli would be shocking - but it's becoming a pattern. Smearing a caring man of principle for standing up for peace.
Harriet Williamson@harriepw

New: Starmer joining in with far-right smears today against @MothinAli - one of the country’s most prominent Muslim politicians - for attending an anti-war demo is just one example of many why he isn’t fit to be PM, a Green Party source says.

The attacks on Iran by Israel and the United States are illegal, unprovoked and unjustifiable. Peace and diplomacy was possible. Instead, Israel and the United States chose war. This is the behaviour of rogue states — and they have jeopardised the safety of humankind around the world with this catastrophic act of aggression. Our government must condemn this flagrant breach of international law, and urgently pursue a foreign policy based on justice, sovereignty and peace.

Fuck. The war has started. Israel has pushed us into this asinine war. Everything that goes wrong is on them. America had absolutely no interest in this war. 8 out of 10 Americans are against it. No matter who we vote for, we get Israel and war. This is going to end in disaster.

@cnnipr @fpleitgenCNN These are sham interviews set up by the Islamic Republic, using agents as "random civilians". @CNN is working in Iran, under the condition of corroboration with the regime. The Islamic Republic does not let reporters roam freely. Iranians want US to Bomb IR terrorists.

Why do so many in the mainstream media still struggle to report Reza Pahlavi, the leader of the Iranian democratic opposition, accurately or fairly? I don’t think leaders of freedom movements in previous eras would be asked if the murder of brave protestors were their responsibility? Let’s be clear - the responsibility for the murder of tens of thousands of unarmed protestors lies squarely with the brutal Iranian Regime. A regime the West has appeased and bolstered for decades. Over the last few years I have been shocked at the conventional wisdom in much of the media and foreign offices around the world. They told me Reza Pahlavi had no support, that Iran was opening up and reformists would be the key to change, that a diplomatic deal was possible. Iran was even portrayed in publications like the Economist, New York Times and Guardian as going through some kind of ‘renaissance’. President Pezeshkian was described as a ‘reformer’. This is the man whose government has just brutally murdered tens of thousands of its own people! Even now, after millions have answered Reza Pahlavi’s calls and chanted for his return, some of the media say his support is symbolic and the opposition on the ground is weak, that there is no organization or plan. I am not sure how you mobilise millions of people without mass support and strong organisation? Or build a defection strategy that over 100,000 army and regime insiders have signed up to without a structure and organisation? Reza Pahlavi, in partnership with hundreds of experts, has published a detailed plan for transition. Many in the media continue to introduce him solely as the son of the Shah and not also the leader of the democracy movement. They say he is a divisive figure. But with who? Events in the past weeks have shown he has mass support from the Iranian people. He has unified large parts of the diaspora and opposition behind him - left and right, republican and monarchist, and tribal leaders too. As many of you know I support @PahlaviReza - a man I have got to know and admire. I do so not just because he has the mass support of the Iranian people but also because he is a leader driven by principles and vision. He believes passionately in a secular democracy. He sees his role as the servant of the people - as a bridge to democracy. He is symbol of the nation. He wants to bring people into a big tent coalition - even groups and individuals who don’t agree with him. For me, Iran is a moral cause of our time, of the same significance as the anti-apartheid struggle in South Africa or the collapse of the Berlin Wall. But it is more than a moral cause - a democratic Iran would not just liberate 90m people but be the foundation of regional peace and prosperity. It would remove the major source of terror and nuclear threat in the region and the wider world. It is something all people of conscience should be fighting for.

Prof Maziyar Ghiabi tells @MattBarbet that he thinks it would be "completely unfeasible" for exiled Iranian crown prince Reza Pahlavi to be installed as shah. He says calls for this are coming mostly from the "echo chamber of social media". Latest ➡️ trib.al/LCf9BiY

Shocking and sad to see so many empty seats in home sections of the King Power. Shows level of frustration and anger with the mess Leicester are in on and off the pitch. Cifuentes will get the grief and possibly the sack for another loss but problems run far deeper. Leicester need stronger leadership from dressing-room to boardroom. More spirited second half cannot hide the shambles and surrender of the first and the troubles within the Club. Threat of possible points deductions, issues around Top, Rudkin and too many players overpaid and underperforming. Wout Faes has played 28 times for Belgium in last three years so he must be decent but he rarely exudes much authority or security with Leicester. It’s about concentration and attitude as well as ability. It’s about taking responsibility and remembering Leicester’s identity and that Foxes never quit. Recruitment a huge issue. Lost some leaders, didn’t replace them with strong characters, fighters needed in times like this. Why did they start playing only when 3-0 down to Sheffield United? Pulled two goals back, bit more enterprise, Mavididi having a go, Soumare a good sub, James’ outstanding strike, Monga brings trickery and hope. But too late. Damaging defeat at home to a team who started the day 22nd in the Championship (and Chris Wilder, a leader, has got Sheffield United going). Leicester have to wake up. They’re heading towards celebrations of the 10th anniversary of the great Premier League title triumph. Leicester have also to beware they’re not heading to League One. They have to fight back and win back the fans. #LCFC 🦊 #LEISHU
