Austria has officially notified @coe of its willingness to join the Enlarged Partial Agreement on the Special Tribunal’s Management Committee. I am grateful to Austria and my colleague @BMeinl for once again proving that neutrality does not mean indifference. To the contrary, accountability is critical to ensure a lasting peace on our continent. Austria’s decision brings the total number of countries willing to participate in the Tribunal to 20, including 19 member states of the Council of Europe. Each new participant cements the truth: justice for the crime of aggression against Ukraine is inevitable. This historic accountability effort strengthens our positions and worldwide respect for international law.

Today, Austria joined the Enlarged Partial Agreement (EPA) of the Special Tribunal on the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine. #Accountability is a key trajectory of Austria’s foreign policy. There can be no lasting peace in Ukraine without accountability.

Productive exchange with @Tsihanouskaya at the Committee of Ministers today on the situation in and around Belarus and @CoE cooperation with Belarusian democratic forces and civil society.  The Council of Europe reaffirms its commitment to address the aspiration for a free and democratic Belarus through the work of its Contact Group.

I thank the Secretary General of the Council of Europe and his team for supporting our people in times of difficult trials, and especially for the efforts to establish a Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression by Russia against Ukraine. I awarded @Alain_Berset the Order of Merit, I class. Many important issues were resolved over the past year, and there are plans for this year. I hope we can move very quickly – even faster than last year. There must be greater unity within Europe in efforts to hold Russia accountable. During the meeting, we discussed introducing a compensation mechanism. Accountability for crimes is one of the factors of a dignified end to the war.
