For centuries, we have been captivated by its pattern. But now it is our turn to create the pattern ourselves – through our lives, our fight, and every new step we take. Every day, Ukrainians embroider it with their own hands – defending what they hold dear, rebuilding what has been destroyed, healing wounds, teaching children, and continuing to learn themselves. We preserve our memory and build the future. Happy Vyshyvanka Day, Ukraine! Celebrating the destiny we embroider in independence!

Happy Vyshyvanka Day! 🇺🇦 Today, Ukrainians around the world and friends of Ukraine are wearing vyshyvankas to honour one of the most iconic and recognisable Ukrainian traditions. Every ornament and regional pattern of Ukrainian embroidery forms part of Ukraine’s rich cultural heritage. The vyshyvanka embodies the connection between generations of Ukrainians and remains one of the most important symbols of Ukrainian identity. Vyshyvanka Day has also become a way to promote Ukraine globally and has grown into an international cultural phenomenon. That is why this celebration, founded by Lesia Voroniuk in 2006, was recognised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine during the “Honorary Ambassador of Ukraine” ceremony in the Cultural Heritage category. Thank you to everyone who proudly wears the Ukrainian vyshyvanka, helping preserve and share Ukrainian culture and telling Ukraine’s story to the world.

As the Chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe passes from Moldova to Monaco, we extend our sincere gratitude to @MoldovaMFA and @MoldovaCoE for their outstanding leadership and unwavering support for Ukraine. Moldova’s Chairmanship concluded with a historic step toward justice: the launch of the Enlarged Partial Agreement on the Steering Committee for the Special Tribunal for the crime of aggression against Ukraine. This important achievement reflects determination, leadership, and a shared commitment to accountability. We warmly welcome Monaco as it assumes the Chairmanship and wish @MCOatCoE and Minister @IBerroAmadei every success in advancing Monaco’s important priorities for the Council of Europe and our continent. Ukraine looks forward to close and constructive cooperation with the Monegasque Chairmanship.

During today’s meeting with President @ZelenskyyUa, we aligned key foreign policy priorities for the coming weeks and months. I thank the President for his vision and leadership. Ukraine remains fully committed to advancing our EU accession process. We have been delivering on the necessary steps and reforms, and now expect clear decisions and a concrete timeline for opening negotiation clusters. A strong and strategically minded Europe must move forward with those who defend its values every day. We also continue active efforts to strengthen good-neighborly relations and regional cooperation, including with Hungary and Georgia, based on mutual respect, pragmatism, and shared interests. Separate attention was devoted to diplomatic efforts aimed at ending Russia’s war and ensuring Europe’s strong role in future security arrangements and peace efforts. Europe must not be an observer when its own security is at stake. I also briefed the President on our latest progress with launching the Special Tribunal and steps taken within the International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children. Ukraine continues to work every day to strengthen European unity, security, and resilience. Our continent’s future will depend on the decisions and determination demonstrated now.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy / Володимир Зеленський@ZelenskyyUa

Together with Andrii Sybiha, we updated our European foreign policy tasks for May and June. At the team level, we are maintaining an active dialogue with Hungary’s new authorities, and there are prospects for a constructive reset of relations. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and other government officials are preparing for a format of bilateral consultations with Hungary – I am counting on results. We also discussed with the Minister our work with European institutions to open clusters in the negotiation process on Ukraine’s accession to the European Union – Ukraine has taken the necessary steps, and it is important to have a clear timeline for the processes. Andrii Sybiha also reported on communication with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia. We seek the normalization of relations and cooperation on the basis of mutual respect and mutual strengthening, and we are ready to take steps toward this. Separate tasks have been defined regarding negotiations to end Russia’s war and Europe’s possible representation in this process – for now, these tasks are not public. We expect Europe to be strong, and for our part, we are doing everything to ensure that pan-European positions and interests are taken into account, just as Ukraine’s are. Glory to Ukraine!

“Ukraine is paying the highest price” to return “home to European values” Oleksandra Matviichuk, Ukrainian human rights defender said as she addressed the European Parliament. “For three centuries, we were in shadow of Russian Empire. And I’m here to say, Europe, we are back.”

In just recent months, Russia’s oil refining has dropped by 10%, and Russian oil companies are being forced to shut down their oil wells. As for Russia’s overall state revenues – thanks to our comprehensive pressure at all levels – within the first five months of this year, Russia’s deficit has already grown far beyond what it had planned for the entire year. Putin has, of course, built a war chest – but certainly not enough to fight indefinitely. Every one of our responses, every joint step of pressure together with our partners, pushes Russia closer to ending its war.

An important discussion at the Council of Europe @coe with Oleksandra Matviichuk @avalaina, Ukrainian human rights defender and head of the Nobel Peace Prize-winning Center for Civil Liberties. The event featured the presentation of her work documenting Russia’s crimes against Ukraine, as well as the Empowered / Спроможні project supporting Ukrainian youth and children affected by Russia’s war of aggression. The discussion continued with an engaging Q&A session on justice, accountability and human resilience in times of war. Held on 18 May — the Day of Remembrance for the Victims of the Genocide of the Crimean Tatar People — the discussion also served as an important reminder that impunity for past crimes only fuels new atrocities. Special thanks to Ambassador Vebjørn Heines and the Permanent Representation of Norway to the Council of Europe @NorwayCoE for their support and cooperation in making this important exchange possible.

Russia’s overnight attack on Dnipro and the region lasted more than six hours. A missile strike damaged an apartment block, with other civilian infrastructure also heavily hit. The attack also targeted energy facilities and residential buildings across the region. Drones struck Odesa as well, and one of the UAVs hit a vessel owned by China. The Russians could not have been unaware of what vessel was at sea. Overall, destruction was recorded across eight regions, and as of now, dozens of people across the country have been reported injured, including children. In total, the Russians used 524 attack drones and 22 missiles of various types in this strike – both ballistic and cruise missiles. Air raid alerts remain in effect across many border and frontline communities, but our services are operating wherever the security situation allows. Russia relies on ballistic missiles to strike people, and that is precisely why we in Europe must do everything possible to ensure reliable protection against this. Europe must have its own anti-ballistic systems and be self-sufficient in the face of these threats. We repeat once again: we need our own anti-ballistic capabilities and stronger Ukrainian air defense right now. This week will be focused on working with our partners to strengthen the protection of lives. I thank everyone already working on this together with Ukraine.
