On 31 March, Azerbaijan commemorates the victims of the genocide committed against Azerbaijanis in 1918. The genocide of March 1918 in Baku led to the deaths of tens of thousands of civilians, as Bolshevik forces turned political and ethnic divisions into mass violence. Today, the Caucasus has an opportunity for reconciliation, with Azerbaijan and Armenia pursuing diplomacy, economic cooperation, and regional integration. Remembering the genocide of March 1918 shows why the lessons of history still matter, especially when building a lasting peace.

Today, AZ President Ilham Aliyev 🇦🇿 attended the inauguration of the 500 MWh “Abşeron” Battery Energy Storage Center, marking another step in the country’s transition toward renewable energy and modernization of its power system. The project, developed as part of AZ’s renewable energy strategy and digital transformation of the national energy network, includes the installation of 50 high-capacity battery units and 13 inverter containers at the facility. Battery energy storage centers are valued for their operational flexibility, allowing them to reach full charge or discharge within approximately two hours. The system enables surplus electricity to be stored and automatically supplied to the grid during periods of peak demand, helping to improve grid stability and energy efficiency. Additional green energy transmission and storage projects are planned across the country as AZ continues to expand its clean energy infrastructure. 🇦🇿
