@JumboElliott76 Epic fail. It has led to the death of our servicemen, death of countless lives in Iran, left the world worse off, and has severely diminished our status globally. At the heart of it all, he did not realize that all Iranians would rather die on their feet than live on their knees.

Face it. Trump failed. Bigly. A defeat diminishing American power and influence. He went against all intelligence agencies & military officials.
Branislav Slantchev@slantchev

I don’t often agree with Kagan but he seems to be right that this is what Trump is hoping for. He started a war without a plan, wasted billions of dollars in equipment, failed to prepare obvious targets for defense, which resulted in unnecessary deaths of American soldiers, hollowed out the Pentagon’s ability to assess targets, which resulted in us murdering over 150 civilians, mostly girls, when we bombed their elementary school in Minab, handed Iran incredible strategic victory by allowing them to take de facto control of the Strait of Hormuz and show that we are powerless to stop it, exposed the strategic isolation of the U.S. that his antagonism to our allies has brought us in, and now he’s trying to slink away with some cockamamie cover that he’s going to use to claim victory. The Iran hawks are clamoring for him to “finish the job” but he’s already finished, and Iran knows it. He doesn’t have a mandate to send ground troops, and even he he orders more bombing, it will be a cosmetic tactic designed to disguise the defeat. What can you possibly accomplish by trying the exact same thing after it failed the first time except now you have depleted a lot of the ammo and Congress has gotten more assertive about not expanding the war?

@CultureExploreX Beautifully said and completely on point. Trying to ignore the history and heritage, of both secular and religious life, would be a mistake. They are interwoven into the culture and life of the Iranian people. Their bravery now as they fight for freedom is inspiring.

Respecting Iranian women and protesters means telling the full story, not weaponizing them for civilizational talking points. They are not asking to be turned into Zoroastrian mascots or Islamophobic props. They are asking for dignity, choice, and accountability after being betrayed by both a monarchy that silenced them and a theocracy that polices their bodies. If you truly stand with Iranians, stop flattening their past. A people with 3,000 years of history deserve more than a meme. Here’s the hard truth that gets lost in slogans like this. Iran’s history did not freeze in the 7th century. Islam in Iran was not only imposed by force and then passively endured for 1,400 years. It was argued with, reshaped, Persianized, and woven into Iranian identity through poetry, law, philosophy, and power. Hafez, Rumi, Ferdowsi, Avicenna, and centuries of Iranian dynasties did not live as broken captives. They argued with Islam, bent it, and made it speak Persian. To erase that complexity is not solidarity with Iranians. It is demonstrating historical illiteracy and making it look like outrage. If you want to talk about imposition, then talk honestly about the 20th century too. Mohammad Reza Pahlavi did not rule by consent alone. He modernized, yes, but he also ruled through SAVAK prisons, censorship, and Western-backed authoritarianism. Mosques became the only places where dissent could breathe. Clerics became political because the Shah crushed every secular alternative. The Islamic Republic did not fall from the sky. It rose from the wreckage of a state that mistook force for legitimacy. Ignoring that is how you end up repeating the same disaster. Iranians deserve better.

Iranian girl: "Islam is neither the religion of Iran nor that of ancient Persia, Islam was imposed on us through torture, massacres, and rape, by enslaving Iranians to convert them to Islam. The Iranians, or Persians, were actually Zoroastrians.”

What if I told you there’s a country with more UNESCO sites than Egypt, borders with 15 nations, and empires older than Rome yet the world reduces it to nukes and veils? That country is Iran. And most people have never really seen it. 🧵

@sharghzadeh There seems to be something different in the emotions of the protesters. I’ve seen videos of random people screaming for Pahlavi, or chanting death to the dictator, in the face of regime officials or while arrested. To me this represents a level of desperation unlike ever before

Why do American cities feel less "alive" than their European counterparts? It's because of something called the "missing middle". A century ago, American cities looked completely different... (thread) 🧵

"Perfection is impossible. In the 1,526 singles matches I played in my career, I won almost 80% of those matches. But what percentage of points did I win? 54% In other words, even top ranked tennis players win barely more than half the points they play. When you lose ever second point on average, you learn not to dwell on every shot. You teach yourself to think: 'Okay, I double faulted...it's only a point.' 'Okay, I came to the net and I got passed again...it's only a point.' Even a great shot, an overhead backhand smash that ends up on ESPN's top 10 playlist – that too is just a point. Here's why I'm telling you this. When you're playing a point, it has to be the most important thing in the world. And it is. But when it's behind you, it's behind you. This mindset is crucial – because it frees you to fully commit to the next point with intensity, clarity, and focus." –@rogerfederer

Umberto Eco, who owned 50,000 books, had this to say about home libraries: "It is foolish to think that you have to read all the books you buy, as it is foolish to criticize those who buy more books than they will ever be able to read. It would be like saying that you should use all the cutlery or glasses or screwdrivers or drill bits you bought before buying new ones. "There are things in life that we need to always have plenty of supplies, even if we will only use a small portion. "If, for example, we consider books as medicine, we understand that it is good to have many at home rather than a few: when you want to feel better, then you go to the 'medicine closet' and choose a book. Not a random one, but the right book for that moment. That's why you should always have a nutrition choice! "Those who buy only one book, read only that one and then get rid of it. They simply apply the consumer mentality to books, that is, they consider them a consumer product, a good. Those who love books know that a book is anything but a commodity."
