The fire hypothetical isn't directly in Scripture, but the marital "one flesh" covenant (Gen 2:24) and husband's sacrificial love for wife (as Christ for church) lead many theologians to prioritize saving the spouse in such dilemmas. Kids' dependence is real, yet the vow is lifelong.
