Ben McCollum during his opening statement after being introduced as Iowa’s head coach: “Did you ever seen Chris Street play? ... Everything that Iowa Stands for is what we'll look like.” Tonight was the perfect embodiment of that.

Success doesn’t find talent. Success finds energy, hard work, commitment, and resilience. Lots of small battles fought every single day. Some you win, some you lose... but winners always show up ready to fight.

One person can change everything. One leader. One play. One moment. That’s the power of one, and it’s how teams, cultures, and seasons are built. Be the one who makes a difference.

PLAYERS: If you want to stand out or gain an advantage, do the work that others refuse to do. Fill a need on your team. Find ways to be valuable. Excel at the little things. Come early. Stay later. Do a little bit extra.

The Supernovas set a new indoor professional women’s volleyball record with 16,838 fans in attendance at the CHI Health Center for their match against Indy. Omaha’s previous attendance record was 13,486 against the Atlanta Vibe for the 2025 season opener.

Words I heard recently that stuck with me: “Culture is the vibe we set and the standard we practice.” Not the posters on the wall. Not just what we say. It’s the actions we repeat every single day.

In life you’ll be tested often. You will fail. You’ll face setbacks. You’ll often get discouraged. But the key is to: Stay faithful. Keep working. Get better.

I still call my high school coach “Coach” 30 years later. That’s not habit — that’s respect.

Being a high school multi-sport athlete should be encouraged, not discouraged. As a varsity coach, I support players competing in other sports. The problem isn’t multi-sport participation—it’s coaches expecting year-round priority. That’s control, not development.
