@TheRealHoz35 @confusion_reign I still don’t understand the point ur trying to make. Obviously if u swing and make contact ur gonna walk less. So ba probabaly is better than obp for Nico, but nobody uses one stat only to gauge the value of a player. If anything this is all descriptive of how Nico produces.

Hosmer is slamming “advanced stats” for undervaluing Nico Hoerner- someone who stat guys LOVE. Hoerner had a 4.8 fWAR last year and is considered super valuable! If this were 1992, no one would think he’s good. Bias is the death of logic
Eric Hosmer@TheRealHoz35

Question for all my new age baseball students out there …… How in 2025 did Nico Hoerner finish 2nd in batting average but 23rd in OBP in the national league? If not drawing walks is your answer please provide his whiff% and provide his contact percentage on swings he made in 2025 and where it ranks amongst NL hitters. @StevenCheah I hate what you’ve done to me but it’s never been more clear the students need their teacher

@TheRealHoz35 @Brandon_Warne I get ur point but it’s 2026 we aren’t using one stat in isolation to gauge a players value. And if we were it certainly wouldn’t be batting average or obp.

I’m saying because of his elite hand eye he will naturally walk less, which will lead to lower obp and IMO that is why batting average for a guy like Nico shows his value better than OBP. I would say Nico batting average is SUSTAINABLE because his hand eye is elite. Are we following? Respectfully as well of course

I’m thinking of offering some remote coaching to some pitchers while I’m on the shelf for a couple months more. But first I want to make sure people know what type of analysis I’d be giving them. Pitchers, leave your clips in replies and I’ll tell you what I think.

@RoyalsData Even beyond just comparing to the rest of the leagues performance, would be interesting to create some sort of benchmarks where you need to be at least here to preform well in terms of things like bat speed exit velo etc.

⚾️ FREE tool for #Royals fans: One of the most difficult aspects of understanding Statcast data is putting it into context. What's a "good" average exit velocity? What's a "bad" hard-hit rate? Link in replies to a Google Sheet where I'll track how KC hitters stack up compared to the rest of MLB.

@PredsKc That's a reasonable spot for them to be. Cags becomes a middle of the lineup bat eventually. Collins could beat 2 hitter if he was healthy coming in.

@ryan_landreth Command is definitely off, but I think part of the problem is the fastball he had in 23-24 isn’t there and it’s not a plus pitch for him. When you can’t get whiffs on the fastball you have to have an elite breaking ball and he doesn’t.

@MakielGlazier I think it’s him or Lange for that last bullpen spot but I lean Lange since he’s on a big league deal with no options + Avila can get starts in omaha

@BoyslnBIue That’s late stage Trout and even then 17-19 Judge & Ohtani aren’t there current versions. Young trout’s biggest competition for best player was Miggy who he was arguably always better then & Harper and Mookie who were just lesser versions of him. Bobby is firmly behind 3 guys

I didn’t really cover Ben Kudrna’s outing much. It’s one outing so TBD on how he ramps up but the stuff continues to look mediocre. 16 in. iVB is fine but just 93 mph and 2100 rpm on average with the four-seamer. He doesn’t look to have leveled up at all this offseason.

Asked Q if he sees Luinder Avila as a starter or a reliever: “Shoot, I see him as a front-of-the-rotation starter down the road.” #Royals

I don’t even understand the argument. Even without looking at the numbers, logically it just makes sense. In every other sport, athletes have gotten significantly better from an athletic standpoint. Are we seriously trying to argue that baseball is the exception? It also just isn’t a relevant discussion. Right now, all velo is standardized and measured the same. When it comes to developing players today, how we measured velocity 30 years ago doesn’t matter.

@AaronSmit1788 Exactly. We have more information and generally speaking know how to increase output for athletes better than we ever have. Does it always relate to better performance? No, but we can guarantee that as a whole, output alone has improved in baseball from a velocity perspective.

You can’t tell me you actually believe players who are training earlier and with more data to tell them exactly what they’re doing actually aren’t throwing any harder than they did before. Thats like saying internet speeds aren’t better now, computers are just reading different.
Next Level Baseball@nextlevelbb

The new measuring devices say everyone is throwing harder than ever. But. More runs are being scored in college baseball every year and ERA's are going up and not down. Please explain this to me. And. Don't say college hitters are that good. The overwhelming majority won't play professional baseball and very few will hit in the big leagues.
