I took part remotely in the 2021 school, & would recommend this opportunity to any student with an interest in quantum tech. Informative lectures and a great platform for interdisciplinary research in the field. I’ll just be jealous of all those who get to attend in person 😢

Incredible example of how just chucking machine learning at something doesn’t automatically mean good research. A tool that considers calling a politician a liar a form of toxic abuse, but lacks the capacity to label clearly racist language as such, is not a well thought out tool

@MarkelaZeneli but there’s no clear indication that this is actually true. This is ofc not to mention that there are obviously areas of our knowledge that aren’t easily compatible with others.

@MarkelaZeneli Maybe simplifying things by my interests, but my take is that it boils down to ontology vs epistemology. That so much of what we observe follows the rules we’ve found (seems to have) lead them to believe it means these laws describe the true reality of the universe,

The issue is really the failure to adopt institutional mechanisms, flexibility and resources to nurture a generation of young black scholars who can make it up to the professoriate. You raise the matter, & you'll get an earful about 'colour-blind' 'merit'.

@MarkelaZeneli I hope so too. Most likely just a case of throwing it all together last minute and not editing properly. Can’t see why any areas in which SHA-2 or 3 is already in use would revert to SHA-1 just because of this, so hopefully it won’t practically make any difference. Still stupid.

@PhDVoice Always varies with field, department, country, but generally... it’s fine. Idk many people who were published before applying for PhD courses. And I know people who graduate with very few, if any, publications.
