In a TV news segment about lung cancer: “In patients that have a history of wood burning, wood-burning stoves, or things used to heat, any smoke exposure—not just smoking, but smoke exposure in general—that’s a risk factor,” Dr. Phillips [a pulmonologist] explained. (Link below.)

City Hall has triggered a high air pollution alert for Tuesday 12 August as hot weather is expected to increase pollutant levels. We're urging Londoners to look after themselves, stop their engines idling, and refrain from burning wood or garden waste.

@TimRRead @thatsnotmanners We just moved out of a rental property where the owner lived next door. We had to keep our doors and windows shut because of their woodfire smoke. Couldn’t do anything about it.

Smelt smoke in Brunswick this morning and then I read this. Fine smoke particles are absorbed into the bloodstream, increasing risk of cardiovascular disease. We don't need wood heaters in inner city renovations. abc.net.au/news/science/2…

@abcnews @Littlefishb1ue Pm2.5 (particle pollution) is the most harmful form of air pollution. In metro Melbourne 51% of pm2.5 comes from wood heaters, compared to 30% of all vehicles (EPA data). Only 5% of Melb households have wood heaters but they impact the 95% of us who don’t!
