Most people ask AI to jump straight to the answer.
"What marketing strategy should I use?"
The AI guesses. You get generic advice.
Instead, force it to THINK step by step.
The technique:
Add this to any complex prompt:
"Think through this step by step. First, identify the key factors. Then, analyse each one. Then, consider trade-offs. Finally, give your recommendation with reasoning."
Real example:
Bad prompt: "Should I price my course at $97 or $297?"
→ AI gives you a coin-flip answer with generic pros/cons.
Good prompt: "I'm launching an AI automation course for small business owners. My audience is on Twitter (12k followers), mostly solopreneurs earning $50-150k. I have no existing course. Think step by step: (1) What does research say about course pricing psychology at each tier? (2) What are the conversion rate implications? (3) What does my specific audience's income level suggest? (4) What's the refund risk at each price? (5) Give me your recommendation with a specific launch strategy."
→ AI produces a genuinely thoughtful analysis because you forced it to reason through each layer.
Why this works:
LLMs are next-token predictors. When you ask for the answer immediately, the first tokens it generates constrain everything that follows. It commits to a direction too early.
When you ask it to reason FIRST, the reasoning tokens create better context for the final answer.
It's the difference between blurting out an answer and thinking before you speak.
Use this for any decision, analysis, or complex question.
Your AI just got dramatically smarter — and you didn't change models or pay more. Just better prompting.
