I wish to convey my heartfelt happiness and goodwill over the appointment of our brother, the immediate past Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Professor Oluwatoyin Temitayo Ogundipe, as the Governing Board Chairman of the National Universities Commission (NUC) by the President. Professor Ogundipe, a highly respected pastor and the immediate past Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos from 2017 to 2022, is an expert in Botany with special interests in biosystemics, molecular plant taxonomy, and ethnobotany, among others. He demonstrated leadership skills at various times in his previous positions in public office and in the church. Under his leadership, UNILAG made its debut and steadily climbed the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings, moving from an unranked status in 2017 to consistently positioning itself in the highly competitive 401-500 global band. We worked together with Professor Ogundipe to ensure the introduction of the LLM in ICT Law and Cyber Law in Nigeria in some selected universities. These are the University of Lagos and Bayero University Kano (BUK). In addition, we signed the first Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the introduction of the LLM in ICT Law at the University of Lagos on the 16th of November, 2018, while I was the Director General/CEO of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA). The aim was to ensure the effective regulation of the ICT sector in Nigeria by lawyers in partnership with ICT experts. My major concern is not about building on TON. Everyone is welcome to build on TON. My concern is when projects create the impression that they are built by the TON team, similar to Notcoin and Dogs. If the project fails, the blame falls on TON. You need to make a clear announcement to your community. Let them know that your project is building on TON, not built by the TON team. If things go wrong, I will be one of the people defending TON in the community. Many of us, alongside @0xJeribond and other top TON KOLs, worked hard to rebuild trust after scammers harmed the community. We have invested a lot in growing this ecosystem, and it is our responsibility to protect the community. In Africa, especially in Nigeria, people are buying and selling $GRM tokens with no liquidity simply because they believe they are connected to TON, Notcoin and Dogs. This is one of the most dangerous parts of this situation. @GRMNetwork_M make a clear announcement them we are good. For community members, if any project claims to be supported by TON, please do your research. Check whether TON is following the project. Look for engagement from official TON figures such as @s0meone_u_know, @ZenithTON, @moontripss, or other recognized TON KOLs.
