Not enough people talk about Alvin Davis: • .280/.380/.450 (.830 OPS, 127 OPS+) • 1984 AL ROY (27 HR, 116 RBI, 147 OPS+) • More BB than K in 7 of 9 MLB seasons • Fan favorite, nicknamed "Mr. Mariner" • Never struck out 85x (only broke 80 once) • Not related to fellow '80s 1B Glenn Davis • During 6-year peak from 1984 to 1989 with Seattle, batted .290/.392/.474 (.866 OPS) and averaged 24 HR, 98 RBI, 98 BB, and just 74 K per 162 games. Mr. Mariner only played 9 years in the big leagues and thus was not eligible to appear on a HOF ballot. He ended his professional baseball career with the Osaka Kintetsu Buffaloes, where he was a teammate of both Hideo Nomo and Masato Yoshii, and played against future HOF'er Ichiro Suzuki.
