Disappointing stats on NTP uncovered by @SchoolsWeek - last year just 49% of pupils on the programme were Pupil Premium eligible. Disappointing, but not unexpected given this KPI was quietly scrapped for providers schoolsweek.co.uk/revealed-tutor…

Now that we have seen the detail of this evaluation, with all the gaps and unanswered questions, the case for more and better evaluation of the NTP that I made last week in @SchoolsWeek is even stronger (schoolsweek.co.uk/ntp-better-fas…)

So the long-awaited eval of NTP Y1 by ⁦@TheNFER⁩ finds that broadly tutoring is associated with better grades (with an avalanche of methodological caveats), but that the scheme failed to target disadvantaged pupils adequately schoolsweek.co.uk/tutoring-schem…

Good to see @AdamAlagiah in @schoolsweek calling for the NTP to be backed up by solid research- particularly in relation to some of of key gaps (eg tutoring in areas other than reading) & acknowledging @TheCfEY's work in this area.
