@Calm_Mirror @rcondon_ Yeah BO1 is not how the game was designed to be played at this level and encourages worse game play and deck building in order to have a few "gotcha, get fucked loser I win" moments. Not a fan

100% agree with every word of this. I also had a 55% win rate across my attempts, and it felt like playing slots.
The event structure has its problems, but @rcondon_ is right that bo1 is an awful, awful choice for high-stakes competitive Magic.

What a frustrating, fun, and disheartening weekend all at the same time. Feel like it's good to be transparent -- I spent $800 on 42 runs at the ALCQ, with a 55.1% WR and making it to draft 2 twice (1-2 each). Thoughts below I guess, they're pretty similar to everyone else

Depending on the area stores have influx of different formats. Not everyone wants to buy standard decks, some are heavy in modern; some areas love sealed

@MillThat @BoshNRoll, @ThrabenU and Bryant Cook as a starting point are the multiformat content creator GOATs at the moment. Would reccommend checking them out for eternal formats (especially ThrabenU for help with red painter which I know is your deck of choice)

Took @gabnassif's Living End list (mostly) for spin, and came away with a 5-0 🏆.
I'm not sure why we're playing 3 GB lands in our base-blue deck, but I'm probably not Hall of Fame enough to understand.

Suppose you are playing at an RC and you get to your table before your opponent. You decide to smear mercury on their side of the table so they become too sick to play.
Even though the MTR doesn't say anything about mercury poisoning your opp, would you consider this unethical?

Once again, the Japan/Korea RC overlaps with one of the US ones—RC Tokyo is the same weekend (May 3-4) as RC Minneapolis. Consequently I'm looking for people to commentate Tokyo with me. If you keep weird hours, like talking about standard, and are free that weekend, let me know.
