@MrCladding @HenryPryor @HMLandRegistry Z1-3 family homes in London. I imagine it’s a big mental hump for sellers, e.g. goes on for £1.3m and after 7 months, £1m is as low as they’ll go.

@rcolvile It actually looks to be the fastest option. Even if you only keep the trains, it’s still about 7 hours to Geneva, followed by a not insignificant cab ride to the resort.

@jimsciutto Also remember what happened when Democratic Party supporters / generally left coded people tried telling Americans to consume less for climate reasons – and the reaction that provoked from the right.

@RDPHistory Has there ever been an assessment as to whether the Royal Marines could have repelled the invasion or, given available weapons, ammunition and incoming forces, would it have ultimately been futile?

April 2nd 1982: The Royal Marines throw down their weapons, bending barrels and taking out firing pins before marching out of Government House. Many are annoyed that a battle they are winning has been called off, but Hunt has agreed to the ceasefire to save civilian lives...

we need a word for the delusion that you would have been elite bc you're white, ignoring that elite status in the past was a small subsection of white anglo-saxon protestants who had generational wealth

Every single one of these is skin-crawlingly bad. It's not just that the specific ideas are cringey (The Sunflower Line, named after the lanyards, is brilliant though), it's inherently naff to name a train line after "some good thing" instead of some facet of geography.

Across the UK vast amounts of road space are being taken from motorists to make way for cycle lanes, which are typically hardly used. The underlying objective is to reduce people's mobility by pushing them out of cars. birminghammail.co.uk/motoring/motor…

Let’s leave aside actually reforming the structure of council tax. It is absolutely *astounding* that in 2025 we have a tax based on home values in *1991*. That’s 34 years of governments who won’t even just do a basic revaluation. It’s just outrageous political cowardice.
Paul Johnson@PJTheEconomist

Another scandal that govts of all colours have lacked courage to tackle. Council tax is outdated, regressive, and grossly unfair to those living in poorer regions and in cheaper properties. It needs updating and making proportional to current value thetimes.com/article/642218…

The faulty fountains in Bristol city centre have been fenced off as work starts to remove them. Surely the most obvious thing to do now is replace them with the green and flowerbeds like we had in the 60s bristolworld.com/news/faulty-fo…

We got these phone booths (a K6 from the 1930s, and a KX100 from the 1990s) for the @stripe lobby, as a reminder that there are always two paths in everything we make: something that elevates and makes you smile, or, well, whatever the thing on the right is.

Manor Road, a rural lane which runs parallel to Montague Road in Saltford, has been closed to motor vehicles. The narrow single track lane has very few passing places and is frequently used by pedestrians, equestrians and cyclists who will now benefit from increased safety 👍
