i saw a mouse with an X-shaped battery compartment.
first thought: this is stupid - who designed it?
5 seconds later: oh.
10 seconds later: OHHH!
the X slot fits an AA or an AAA battery - whichever you've got lying around.
the part most people miss is that the shape also makes it physically impossible to load both at once.
there is no warning label, no instructions and no way to screw it up.
the geometry does the thinking for you.
japanese has a word for this.
poka-yoke = "mistake-proofing."
the product refuses your stupidity before you can offer it.
i wish more things worked like this.

@chunker27@walruswhisperer I'll take the win and accept the outcome as the best it can be... I just wish someone else took the money. Thanks Phil to you and @urgentseas for more than just ML. I'm going to go hit the donate button! Keep going!!! 👍
@chunker27@walruswhisperer They will make hundreds of millions for this land. That's a huge reward for torturing animals for 63 years. I wish this money could be diverted to anything else.
Yes! This is definitely a Gravitron. Unlike a lot of other rides being talked about in this thread, the floor did not open up or fall once you reached max speed. The padded boards slid up and you could turn around upside down, lay sideways, etc…, until it started to slow down at which time you best be in an upright standing position so you wouldn’t land on your head as it stopped. Lol. Fun times at the fair!
Does anyone remember this fair ride or what it's called? There were no straps... it would spin so fast that it would pin you against the wall. People would vomit. It was fun. 🤣
@joshuahind@Bell Bell, Roger’s and Telus apparently. Not nationwide though, it is working here in southern Alberta. MSM says Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic are down
@BigT4X@Bell_Support I have intermittent Internet on 5G, but no fibre. Fibre can't authenticate. Probably because it has no route to the authentication servers. We've been Rogers'd. 🤪
Some customers in Ontario and Quebec may be experiencing an Internet service interruption. We are working to restore service as quickly as possible. Thank you for your patience.
@veritasium@Spotify I've been watching since the beginning. I loved when you'd be walking around Australia asking people questions... Those videos were informative and hilarious. I still watch everything. Now the kids watch too! Congrats. You did it! ⚛️😎
@Starlink I want it, but... 3.5Gbps fiber with 3ms latency for $116.00 CAD... Outside of a metro area, it's the best! I have worked with several Starlink locations where the alternative would have been phone calls and mail. 😎
Nigel Braun, known as “NileRed” on YouTube, considers himself less a chemist or a science communicator in the vein of Bill Nye and MythBusters than an adventurer. “I want to have a journey,” he said. “I’m not interested in just conveying information.” nyti.ms/4cuUAFz
An animation scene is just like a theater, where all of the stories unfold. Except instead of producers, actors and directors we have illustrators and animators doing most of the work.
