The scooter ban is stupid. There, we said it. The Mayor wants you to believe scooters are "one of the city's No. 1 security risks". It's a lie. On 11/28 a child on his bike was killed by a driver, one of hundreds who will die in car crashes this year in Houston.

Under an ordinance passed today by Houston City Council, if you own an electric scooter and you ride it from, say, your home to a restaurant between 8 PM and 4 AM, you're breaking the law.

@BayouBikeyBoi @houmayor @MarioforHouston @HoustonTX Good point! And that's what I mean by poorly thought out. They present this as only affecting the "bad scooters" in downtown, but the letter of the law has much broader implications. Car-brained way of thinking.

These amendments make it illegal for me to ride my personal scooter from my home to my neighborhood grocery store or restaurant after 8 pm. This is poorly thought out and punishes Houstonians like myself who are trying to reduce car traffic. @houmayor @MarioforHouston @HoustonTX
