Benoǐt Allaire, the Rangers longtime coach, is retiring after the draft and free agency, per a league source. He has been with the organization since July 2004. He had stepped back from day-day coaching in summer 2024 but remained director of goaltending.

Of course you weren’t getting anything for him. But I don’t think they checked. I think he knew if he waived goody that grier would pick him up And it’s Not about being traded or anything. The comparison was that they talked to Mac. Where as Drury didn’t talk to goody A simple convo would’ve avoided a lot of animosity. And that was the issue. That it blind sided him. And that seemed to be what caused everyone on X and in the media to really get on drury. That he didn’t do it in a respectful way

I actually don’t think that’s true. And you can’t know that’s true. Yes brisbois went to Mac. And there were options for him. And it’s entirely plausible there were none for goody. But they didn’t go to goody and have that convo. They just did it. And that’s where the difference lies If CD had went and had that convo instead of blindsiding the guy it wouldn’t have been as much turmoil. Also, he could’ve given him a day or two for his agent to seek a trade somewhere. Which might not have resulted in anything. But all of this is a moot point. They didn’t give him or any of the team leaders a heads up. And that’s what caused the rift.

@DSAlarm @Broadway_Block @EvolvingHockey It wasn't the same situation. They went to McDonagh to say he could pick his destination or else he'd be going on waivers. The prerequisite there being that Mcdonagh had a lot of value and many teams would want him. With Goodrow, the options were trade to SJ or waivers to SJ.

Except not everyone would be pissed off But he’s not the only GM to do it. And he was opportunistic when he did. Which was smart

@AdamZHerman Absolutely valid! If the meter shifts to top-six caliber, feels like Cozens is just as worthy. Wilson too, perhaps. Definitely would have Kyrou as my frontrunner though, dude had an absurd defensive season.

@jp_gambatese I like Drury's game but, when we're talking about a top-three ranking, I would be VERY skeptical of a player who got to play on the best team in the NHL and specifically behind MacKinnon and Nelson.

My Selke ballot would have had Jordan Kyrou and Jack Drury instead of the first two. Even if the parameters for the award are that the team had to make the playoffs, which is stupid, it should have been Drury and Cozens.

For all of Drury's mistakes, it's bizarre to me that Goodrow's waiving is still treated like some sort of misstep. Can you imagine if they had the statistically worst player in the NHL on the books for two more seasons stealing minutes from a Chmelař or Sýkora?
