The average punter refuses to recognise that if a house becomes valued at say $1.40 million because fixed mortgage rates are 2.50% then when rates reach 5.00% the house value necessarily becomes $700,000. Simple arithmetic that those over 55 were taught in junior school.

There is broadly only 1 reason why house prices are so high in Oz: lack of supply. Demand driven “solutions” just drive up prices. The majority of voters are home owners so feds and states don’t want to address supply & have lower prices.
