I welcome HMRC’s conclusion, which has cleared me of any wrongdoing. I have been exonerated by HMRC of the accusation that I deliberately sought to avoid tax. When purchasing a home of my own with a mortgage, I did not own any other property and had no personal financial interest in the court-instructed trust set up to manage my son’s financial award. I was advised by experts that I should pay stamp duty at the standard rate. I set out to pay the correct amount of tax. I took reasonable care and acted in good faith, based on the expert advice I received, and HMRC has accepted this. I have always sought to act with integrity, and I believe politicians should be held to high standards - that is why I resigned from government and cooperated fully with HMRC.  I wanted to ensure that I paid every penny that I owed, and have done so. I am relieved that my family can now move on - and that I can get on with my job.

@kwakbiker @mototingle In over 30 years of having these checks i have never had any questions like that on the old system or the new DBS. I would check you are on the correct genuine site. There are plenty of dodgy ones so be careful.

@mototingle Didn't have any of those questions for my recent dbs check renewing my dvsa instructor licence🤷

I helped a lad apply for his DBS check to become a MOT tester at workshop 2 this morning. Gov systems: What is the credit limit on your credit card? What bank did you recently get a loan from? *with multiple choice questions So it’s clear they have access to our accounts

Our work aircon is set to Baltic so whilst everyone else sweats I have my winter woollies, a scarf and blocks of ice for feet. So glad to get in car to warm up

@GMJPHelliwell @campervan_57 I have the OS Digital on the phone but I like having a traditional back up and old school navigation skills to fall back on. Milo’s fun extended to eating some of it so I think I’ll pick up a new one 🐶🐾
