3. Since Maos death China has backed the Khmer Rouge, invaded Vietnam, made trade deals with Israel, made arms deals with Duterte and the Saudis, and has dissolved the people’s communes. If anything, this should convince Marxists that the cons of state power outweigh its pros

@LilithLovett People who view China as still Communist are dumber than people who think Japan is real life is just like anime.

I just love how everyone keeps throwing the strawman word around without understanding. Calling them strawmen ignores that each villain actually reflects a real ideology taken to an extreme. They’re not meant to be perfect representations. They are like narrative extremes to challenge the Avatar.

Seeing this list is the only time I will somewhat agree with Alta fans hallucination that the writers for the shows were different lol. Coz..ozai qas just a loud final boss with good lighting. Meanwhile Korra villians having Amon tackling inequality and fear, Unalaq pushing spiritual extremism, Zaheer explores extreme anrchism taken too far even Kuvira with the whole authoritarian order gone wrong. They’re not just villains, they’re actual ideologies clashing with the world of avatar. Ozai in comparison just seemed like he's just the guy you beat at the end 😭😭😭.

@Adept_Damage @calebsmxlti No. Unalaq was an interesting person. And it was very important for the worldbuilding to show that spiritual=/= morally good. His manipulations during Book 2 were more impressive than anything Ozai ever did during the hundred year war. I grant that his motivations were simple

@calebsmxlti He's one of the most basic, uninteresting villains ever. It's fine because the show is quite good regardless

@Adept_Damage I think finding out about the Jardaan is cool. They show that an answer to the organic and synthetic problem is fusing with one another. Sort of the green ending but more consensual.
