This is the weapon that an F-15 pilot would carry with them for defense in the event of a crash in hostile territory. The GAU-5A Aircrew Self Defense Weapon (ASDW) is a compact, takedown 5.56mm rifle designed by the U.S. Air Force Gunsmith Shop for pilots to store in ACES II ejection seat kits. It enables downed aircrew to engage threats up to 200 meters, utilizing a quick-release barrel and folding grip for rapid assembly without tools.

One of the few times one can get an insight as to what firearm does an AAC Pilot carry on their person during Operations, as seen here it’s the 9mm Browning Hi-Power/OFB Pistol 9mm1A. IAF pilots carry Glocks as seen during the capture of Wg. Cdr. Abhinandan, who had a Glock-26 (Pic-3) on him. Perhaps the Short Barreled variant of the 9mm ASMI SMG could be explored as an addition/alternative. @SandeepUnnithan

If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. But if it gives an edge & works well, try it. This isn’t a larger weapon per se. The USAF figured out a way to pack in a tool less assembly into the survival pack of a pilot. Gives longer range if survival demands stand off engagements. The pistol is finally not worth it for ranges longer than 10 metres

While US Air Force has equipped its downed pilots in Iran with GAU-5A (compact, takedown 5.56×45mm rifle that fits inside an ejection seat and can be assembled in seconds), India is still relying on imported standard-issue sidearms.
During the 2019 India–Pakistan aerial engagement, Wg Cdr Abhinandan was reportedly carrying a Glock 26, chambered in 9x19mm Parabellum.
At the very least, our pilots should have domestically designed, duty-grade striker-fired service handgun with modern ergonomics, if not a compact, rapidly deployable takedown rifle system.

The downed F-15 pilots will be depending on this weapon to keep the hordes at bay while they wait for the CSAR teams to find them. I really don’t understand why NSG continues to procure single tube monocular NVGs. I’ve seen some relatively newer ones from TASL and ADTL as well. The minimum standard for them should be Dual Tube Binocular NVGs and a smaller amount of Quad Tube BNVDs for CQB Ops (Not just the single digit trial order from @TonboImaging for their BNVD-Ps which they proudly showcase in every photoshoot or PR event). @tataadvanced , @MKUofficial, @TonboImaging and others all make such NVGs in India (though indigenous content and design varies).
Even PARA SF and the rest of the Parachute Regiment has been moving towards standardising Dual Tube Binocular NVGs though this still has a long way to go. MARCOS, publicly atleast, were the first ones in India to showcase Dual Tube NVGs and have more or less standardised them across their units. Some Bhairav Commandos of the Regular Infantry have also been seen with them.
