It’s evident Tasmanian needs an ICAC . For those that don’t know, an Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) is a government integrity body that investigates serious misconduct, corruption, and unethical behaviour in the public sector, including politicians. #politas

@BenGlenHuon A commonsense result, say no to discrimination. You don’t penalise people supporting tourism accommodation needs. If you want more housing accommodation stop blocking medium and high density housing.

What is going on with the Tas Greens? Cr Bill Harvey just abstained (and therefore voted NO) to tonight's motion to double rates again for whole home short stay, up to 400% of the residential rate. He also voted down an amendment to raise them to 221%. Just inexplicable #politas

f there’s serious heavy lifting required to deliver budget savings, then sitting politicians should share the burden too. Let’s see MPs manage with just one support staff member, and let’s have them pay for their own fuel from their already generous salaries.

Tasmanians are being sold a “surplus story” but the reality is very different. State debt is already around $10 billion, it’s smoke and mirrors. We see billions, flowing into shiny vanity projects, while families are doing it tough and frontline services feel the strain.

Honey bees are an introduced species in Tasmania. It’s a reminder that not all introduced species are black and white. Some that are routinely and unfairly demonised also play important roles in society. Balanced, evidence-based management matters more than emotional labels.

Latest credit card bill from Anika Wells, the disgraced Labor MP. $293,679 in three months. Some of the items include first class flights, $2,000 dinners with $1,500 wine tab.

TT-Line was declared insolvent by the Auditor General in August 2025.   That’s the reality of Rockliff Liberal Government ongoing financial incompetence.

Liberals promised lower insurance costs, but it was never a credible claim, typical election empty promise. If they were genuine about helping Tasmanians, drop stamp duty from insurance premiums #politas

#politas •Uses 2024 data for deer increases to prop up a narrative! •Deer are not declared feral, they are a game species. •Farmer assist has been a complete failure in Tasmania because of the lack in support for near a decade. •No talk about pivots having a concentrated increase of deer numbers near farms, while bush fallow are thinned out • Doesn’t mention deer surrounding AG zones are protected by STT lands unable to be hunted. Just to point out a few issues in this “story” I asked years ago about getting into farmers assist, the response was a laugh and “don’t bother” Says enough.

The @TasLiberal government would rather support private enterprise than the struggling people of Tasmania, remember why deer farms failed?#politas #Auspol #Auspol2025 nre.tas.gov.au/agriculture/ga….

Tonights Budget, I’d like to see real incentives encouraging landlords to offer secure long-term rentals of 5 to 10 years, giving families greater stability and certainty. There needs to be stronger incentives or penalties to stop residentially zoned land sitting vacant.#auspol

TT-Line is under massive financial pressure with cost overruns exceeding $700 million, Tasmania’s debt is heading beyond $9 billion, yet the Liberal Government expects Tasmanians to believe a proposed $1.2 billion AFL stadium won’t become another financial burden. #politas

On behalf of Derwent valley rail and as a member of the board I proudly share the following #politas MEDIA RELEASE Derwent Valley Railway Secures Lease for 3.1km of Boyer Rail Corridor Date: 7 May 2026 The Derwent Valley Railway (DVR) is proud to announce that it has successfully secured a lease for 3.1 kilometres of the railway corridor between New Norfolk and Boyer. This milestone marks a significant step forward in the organisation’s long-term vision to restore and operate heritage rail services along the Derwent Valley Line, and represents the first time in over 20 years that DVR has secured a lease over this section of the railway. DVR Chairman, Matthew Davey, welcomed the outcome and acknowledged the work of all involved in reaching this agreement. “Securing the lease for this section of the Boyer line is a major achievement for the Derwent Valley Railway. It provides us with the certainty needed to move forward with planning, maintenance, and future rail operations,” Mr Davey said. The lease enables DVR to formally access and manage the corridor, allowing for essential maintenance, preservation of infrastructure, and preparation for future operations. Importantly, DVR confirms that it has not stepped away from its broader vision to extend rail services beyond Boyer. Secretary Maurice Hays said the organisation remains committed to its long-term goals. “We have not given up on our plans to run services through to Westerway and Mount Field National Park. These remain key long-term objectives for the organisation,” Mr Hays said. “We are continuing to work collaboratively with TasRail to explore pathways that will support future expansion of rail services along the corridor.” This lease represents a foundational step in that journey, strengthening DVR’s position to progressively extend operations as infrastructure, access, and partnerships allow. DVR extends its thanks to all stakeholders involved in securing the lease and looks forward to continuing constructive engagement with partners, government, and the community. The organisation will now begin planning the next stages of work along the corridor, with further updates to be provided to members, volunteers, and the wider community. As the State Government considers rebranding state growth, it may be timely to review how land managed by Parks and Wildlife is governed, including exploring co-management or transfer arrangements with Traditional Owners.#politas

Tasmania caps campaign spending for candidates in Legislative Council elections this weekend, yet there’s no equivalent restraint in the House of Assembly. How is that defensible? Its taxpayers who have to reimburse this extraordinary costs, is it time for change . #politas

@JoshWillie1 Exemptions will not work which has been proven by the current commissioner, more than happy to discuss with you further. Community safety should be targeted towards criminals not LAFO. You will see in my request to legco in 2023 tougher sentences which was ignored.

If @JoshWillie1 can’t take an educated stance with firearms and engage with stakeholders it’s a sign he is in fact not a leader and should resign immediately. His comments made this morning on ABC are a propaganda narrative full of uneducated dribble #politas Here to educate
Phillip Bigg Ind@PhillipBiggInd

Due to commentary in the Tasmanian parliament #politas, I as President of @ShootersUnion Tasmania have requested Felix Ellis abandon any amendments to the Act until such time reasonable educated attitudes from MPs are made clear that evidence based decisions will be produced.

For those who don’t know. In Tasmania, you can’t just walk into a shop and buy a firearm. Must have a licence, with a genuine reason, and there’s a minimum 28-day waiting period while police run background checks each and every time. #politas

The collapse of Liberty Bell Bay (temco) would ripple through the entire Tasmanian economy. Higher electricity bills. Harder future for everyone. The domino effect shouldn’t be underestimated. State and Federal Governments must step up before it’s too late. #auspol #politas
