Scientists from the BioRescue program are attempting a last rescue using advanced reproductive technology. Lab-created embryos made from preserved northern white rhino eggs have been developed, and in 2023 one was implanted into a southern white rhino surrogate. the 2023 procedure was a proof-of-concept that paved the way for real attempts to bring back the Northern White Rhino.
If this process is successful, it would mark the first revival of a functionally extinct animal through biotechnology. With fewer than 80 viable eggs ever collected, every attempt matters.

More bad news from #Pakistan: yesterday plainclothes thugs, likely agents of the security establishment, forced their way into the home of @ImranKhanPTI's sister, Aleema Khan in Lahore. They brutally beat family members and staff and kidnapped her son, Shahreez, a young man in his twenties. This is simply barbaric. What does the de factor ruler of #Pakistan, reputed to be aiming at the role of president for life, have to say about this? Why has he taken such a step? If this was not done at his instigation, what is he doing to rescue him, return him to his family, and punish the criminals responsible?
