Serious question, how are console players even supposed to win this archery contest with a controller? I'm playing with a mouse & keyboard and I found this quite challenging. Can't imagine the pain you guys must have gone through to finish this quest 😭

@nuhre_ If you go into it expecting a good story, maybe. But if you go into it as an Open World Adventure, the story/ies so far is/are ok. At least up to the 50 hours I've played so far. Kliff does end up being like a Link with just barely more dialogue. 🤣

The community surrounding this game is awesome, so I wanted to try something. I LOVE the dye system in Crimson Desert, it's incredible for a single-player game, but I have nearly no dyes. If anyone stumbles upon some on their adventures, post a map pic below 😁

@pureMetatron It's worth it, as long as you don't approach it as an RPG. If you go at it like, say, Breath of the Wild, you will enjoy it. Also. I think you might enjoy some of the fantasy armours it has. Unless your "full pedantic" mode kicks in. 🤣

@nuhre_ @greedfall Doesn't the premise of Greedfall seem similar to Avowed's ? You arrive on an island with multiple factions vying for power, with a mysterious disease spreading, and your character also has a connection to the island ? 🤔

I played around 5 hours of @greedfall last night and… I’m enjoying it. It genuinely feels like a game that came out 15 years ago, with all the ups and downs that come with that. It’s janky. Facial animations are basically nonexistent. Combat is rough around the edges. BUT. The voice acting is top notch. The companions actually feel like people with personality. And the lore and story so far? Immaculate. It takes a bit for your brain to catch up, but once you get used to the jank… you hit that flow state and suddenly you don’t want to put it down.

@thicc_stick_boi It still suffers from NPC materialization, just not on the level of Dragon's Dogma 2. And at least they are livelier than Avowed's NPCs.

Crimson desert is a pretty good look at what future open world games are going to be capable of in terms of map size and NPC density with proper optimzation.

@PaulTassi It was actually mentioned in the pop up message when you first obtained a sealed Abyss. But given how much the game throws at you at times, it's easily missed/forgotten, I guess.

My sheer confusion at the 2:24 mark of this clip when someone in chat told me that people quit the game over this 'puzzle'. I have since been sent clips of people being lost, and uhhh... not to be a dick, but what???

@nuhre_ I was expecting the mixed reviews. Because some kept calling it an RPG. Which it wasn't and it isn't. It has more in common with BotW than, say, Witcher 3. Controls are also junky and a steep learning curve, and even though combat has been enjoyable it hurts exploration a tad.

From the footage shown before release, I could already tell Crimson Desert was shaping up to be more of a technical demo than a fully realized game. That it would feel like an MMO in everything but name. That the story would barely be there. And people went for my throat over it. And I get it, when a game you’re excited about doesn’t meet expectations, it stings. But pretending criticism comes out of nowhere, or that people are just “hating,” isn’t helping anyone. A lot of us are just saying: manage your expectations. We literally had this debate weeks ago: does story matter in games? And yeah, gameplay is important. But for most players, no amount of systems or content will keep them around if there’s no story to anchor it. If anything, this should be a reminder that hype culture is toxic, for players and studios. Because when something looks too good to be true… it usually is.

@YorchTorchGames @mcdizzle17 How many times defence funding has failed ? Isn't that waste an insult to taxpayers ? Defence, art funding, etc, exists for job creation and some form of positive results for the state and/or the taxpayer. Duds are part of the equation, you can mitigate them not eliminate them.

Kind of like how America uses your tax dollars to blow up countries across the world, other countries have program to fund arts (even the shitty ones)
Smash JT@SmashJT

And this raises that SAME much bigger question with this stuff happening. WHY ARE TAXPAYERS dollars being used to fund video games ...at all? When a studio receives hundreds of thousands of euros in government subsidies before the game even releases, the incentive structure changes completely. They have ZERO incentive to sell any copies. Normally, devs have to convince customers to buy their game.. I mean, before commies started taking over the planet. That’s the natural market feedback loop. If players don’t want it, the studio loses money and learns from the mistake. At least they used to... But when governments step in and start subsidizing projects under these ridiculous vague labels like “cultural value,” suddenly the studio is already partially paid before a single copy is sold. That removes a HUGE amount of normal 'pressure' to actually make something players want. Instead of designing for customers, the real audience becomes grant committees and cultural review boards deciding which projects qualify for funding. This explains so many wokie style games that are constantly being rejected by the gaming community at large continuing to release. That’s how you end up with situations like this. Developers chasing government approval instead of player demand. ...And this isn’t just an Italy problem. Europe and Canada have been pouring tax money into game development for years through cultural subsidy programs, among many other countries. It is becoming a serious problem. The result is exactly what you would expect: projects getting funded bc they satisfy the same old bureaucratic rules instead of because gamers are excited to buy them. Games should succeed or fail based on whether players want them, not whether a government cultural committee signs off on them. If a game is truly great, it shouldn’t need taxpayers to bankroll it in the first place.
