We know what works. Now the goal is reaching everyone with it — because fewer cases means more lives saved from #cancer. 🚭 Tobacco control saves lives. Smoking rates today have dropped 27% since 2010, reducing lung cancer rates in many countries. 💉 HPV vaccination prevents cervical cancer before it even begins. 🔍 Screening programmes are finding cancers earlier. This means treatment can be more effective.

Since the start of the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, 112 health workers have been infected with the Bundibugyo virus, 35 of whom have tragically lost their lives in the line of duty. The recent infection of a U.S. humanitarian worker in Bunia is a powerful reminder: those who risk everything to protect us must be protected themselves. Africa CDC stands with the Governments of DRC and Uganda, working through the Continental Incident Management Support Team (IMST) and @_AfricanUnion Member States to ensure frontline responders have the personal protective equipment, training, safe working conditions, and sustained support they need. Vaping impacts both our health and the environment. Vapes are littering the streets where @LessWasteLaura lives. Let’s take care of our health and the planet—think twice before starting to #vape.

The cradle of humankind. The origin of our species. Home to the deepest genetic diversity on earth. And the most underrepresented continent in global genomic databases. Closing that gap is the work of the African Bioinformatics Institute. #AfricaGenomics #Bioinformatics #ABI

A human genome once took 13 years and $3 billion to sequence. Today it takes under 24 hours. But reading the code is only the beginning. Making sense of 3 billion letters of biological data is the work of bioinformatics. Swipe for a plain language explainer. #Bioinformatics
