President Tinubu has just appointed a Major General as “Special Adviser on Homeland Security.” The term “homeland” is ideological and historically rooted. It makes sense in contexts like the United States, Germany, Israel, or Palestine. In Nigeria, it is largely meaningless. If the President no longer has confidence in his National Security Adviser, he should simply replace him, not create a new office with a copycat title.

After everything our dear troops have seen and gone through in that region, seeing them celebrate after taking over a Boko Haram stronghold brought tears down from my eyes. You could feel the relief and energy in the moment. Wow. These are places that have caused fear for years, areas where terrorists once operated freely and made life difficult for innocent people. So watching Nigerian soldiers stand there victorious, knowing they pushed through and captured that position, is something many Nigerians will be proud to see. But of course, the enemies of Nigeria will never say thank you to our troops, they will never say God bless our military, because their anger has never really been about insecurity, it has always been about politics and hatred. The day our soldiers record victories is the day they suddenly become deaf and dumb.
