People thought something bad had happened. Then we found out why. It was his birthday… and his wife had just paid off the remaining ₦900,000 balance on his keke. Unlike Samuel, many Nigerians don't know how to appreciate kindness. I have sent a guy who begged via social media 10k because he said he wanted to come back from school after the exam but financially handicapped. This guy met me on an occasion early this month and couldn't say a Teslim( greeting). He thought I had forgotten him. Me wey no de forget things. I told a guy I had gotten 10k as my last card a few years ago and I sent him 4k out of it after serious begging. On the second day, there was neither a message nor a call. He was just viewing my posts on my WhatsApp status. I have handled a case pro bono to secure the bail a guy who was maliciously prosecuted for theft from prison, and upon returning back, for over 3 weeks, I neither got his call nor see him in my office. This was a guy who had spent over 6 months in prison o and was disturbing me with several calls begging me for help. I wondered who used to give them phones inside prison. I had to be the one to call his brother to tell him to show in my office to get him prepared for his trial. I had inconvenienced myself to fulfill the wishes of a lady whom I had loved so much that all that ended it was: "What have you done for me sef?" I couldn't 😢 😭! Everywhere first blur!! The way I reacted to her on this ingratitude thing hen!!. It was not funny. Whenever a stranger or anyone gives you something or renders a help, it is expected you appreciate it genuinely. Nobody owes you anything!!! It is psychological. When you are grateful for what is done for you, the person who did the favour would be triggered and motivated to do more. Even God is happy and pleased when His servant is grateful for His Grace over him. It was the genuine expression of gratitude of Samuel and his mother that captivated the world towards them and triggered the support they got. In this world where shrewd capitalism is at play, if you see anyone helping you in one way or the other, be grateful and show it . Do not abuse access and do not make the person helping you feel he/she has made a wrong decision to help. Helpers don too scarce o, helpers sef need Helper in this age. All man for himself nioo!!!!
