I would have to disagree. The closing of @Walgreens on 86th and Cottage Grove I admit is devastating for the black community, but as businesses what do you expect them to do? I have spoken with employees of different Walgreens predominately in black communities and they say the same. Shoplifters who are violent and just blatantly walk in and grab items, sometimes bags of items and walk out knowing nobody will stop them. It cost businesses more to do business in high crime areas as well, coupled by higher security costs, and employee safety concerns. @ChicagosMayor loves to swish around in his mouth "segregation " and "anti black" and comparing wages to "Slavery" but it's his reckless policy's, increased taxes and bureaucracy on businesses, especially in the black community that are pushing businesses out. And lastly, that #Walgreens was destroyed when the "community" looted it back in 2020. Where was the outrage then? #Chicago

Walgreens closing at 86th & Cottage Grove is ridiculous. Once again, it’s the South Side, our seniors, our families, our community, left behind. How are seniors supposed to get their prescriptions? How are families supposed to access basic necessities? This is what happens when businesses are pushed out of Chicago. I’ve been warning about this. When you create an environment where businesses don’t feel safe, don’t feel supported, and are overtaxed, they leave. And when they leave. Jobs disappear Access disappears Communities suffer This is hitting Black communities the hardest. You can’t keep voting for policies that drive businesses out, then act surprised when your neighborhood is left with nothing. At some point, we have to stop ignoring the results and start accepting that we are to blame. We keep voting the same way locally and expecting a different outcome, that’s insanity. Chicagoans, wake up,fast. You’re not going to have anything left in your community or this city if you keep putting the same people into office. We've returned. We are still in the midst of cleaning up the clutter left by a hacker, but we are back. We have plenty to say about the events of the past 13 days.

@JBPritzker You gutted the rights and safety of the residents of Illinois to appease criminals and repeat offenders under your disastrous Safe T Act. Enough is enough.

This is the face of a hero who gave his all for our community. Chicago police officer John Bartholomew served on the dept. for 10 years. He was killed in the line of duty on Saturday. I’m told by friends, he was a proud dad, a loving husband, and an outstanding officer. 💙

Eileen O'Neill Burke today after a Chicago cop was killed by a man on EM with four pending violent felonies: "Electronic Monitoring system is broken. It does not work. It does not keep people safe." SA O'Neill Burke gets it. This is why crime has dropped 22 percent in Chicago. Until the EM program is dismantled and progressives are removed from the bench, residents of Chicago will continue to be at the mercy of violent criminals.

Rather than grandstand with an “accountability commission” to keep ICE in the headlines, perhaps JB Pritzker should create a panel to hear from the many hundreds of residents whose lives have been affected by repeat violent offenders out on bail due to the SAFE-T Act. We could start with the family of CPD Officer John Bartholomew, who was murdered by Alphanso Talley, a seven-time felon who was on electronic monitoring for recent carjacking and armed robbery charges.

What does @ICEgov Agents have to do with this statement? The young people, especially those of color are being killed on the streets of Chicago under your incompetent leadership and your lack of accountability. Where is the health and safety of that or do you just enjoy exploiting black people for your political agenda? #Chicago #Breaking #ChicagosMayor
Mayor Brandon Johnson@ChicagosMayor

I want to commend the young people in Chicago for demonstrating true solidarity when it comes to the health and safety of their classmates. When the people are united, government listens, and I will continue to use every power available to me to protect all Chicagoans.

Judge John Lyke put suspected cop killer Alphonso Tally on an ankle monitor “over the state’s rigorous objection.” He pointed to the SAFE-T Act. “It appears his mind is finally developing," Lyke said. "He may be on the path to making better decisions." cwbchicago.com/2026/04/judge-…

What a horrible tragedy. Made even worse by the fact that it was totally preventable. A Judge sllowed a violent felon to remain on the streets of Chicago after being placed on electronic monitoring, and failing to keep his court dates. This insanity is costing lives. It's time for the Safe-T Act to be repealed. x.com/i/status/20488…

The ability of some politicians to be chronically online only to go deafeningly silent when there is a murder that's highly inconvenient to their talking points is .... something.

We'll just say this: It's going to be very difficult for promoters of the SAFE-T Act to say the SAFE-T Act was not the reason a judge put Alphonso Talley back on the street. Our story is coming late tonight....
