This past weekend, after my sister’s funeral, on my way back, I got involved into an accident. Fortunately I’m still alive, I have survived minor injuries. 🥺💔

I respectfully disagree.
The reality is that most people will never be able to pay outright in cash for a decent car, say £30,000, before they leave this world. So what, then, is the point of life if you cannot enjoy good, meaningful things while you are still alive?
In my view, if you can comfortably afford the monthly payments for something, then you can truly afford it. There is a reason salaries are paid monthly rather than annually, it is designed to support a sustainable lifestyle over time.
For instance, I earn around £100k a year, yet I still cannot realistically pay £30k upfront in cash for a car, even though my ideal choice right now would be closer to £65k. So the question becomes: at what point in life am I expected to enjoy these things? When I earn £200k? £300k?
The same applies to housing. If not through financing, when exactly does the average person get to own a beautiful home?
So again, if you can responsibly manage the monthly cost, then it is within your means. Life is meant to be enjoyed, not merely endured.
After all, we are here today and gone tomorrow, and someone else may end up enjoying the very things we denied ourselves using our savings.
Shalom

In my opinion unless you are buying a car through a business, the most financially savvy thing to do is to buy a used 3 year old car in cash.
One thing people neglect to consider is when people buy a car cash, they buy the car they can afford. When people finance a car, they buy the car they aspire to own.

The more financially literate I become, the less I think I’ll ever buy a car outright
