ASIA IS DUMPING THE DOLLAR... AND THIS TIME, IT’S SERIOUS The U.S. dollar is still the prom king of global finance - but lately, it’s looking a little less popular at the international lunch table. Countries across Asia, especially in ASEAN, are moving away from dollar dominance. Their new strategy? Trade more in local currencies, cut out the middleman, and stop getting whiplash every time America throws a political tantrum. Why now? Trump’s trade war vibes, sanctions-as-a-hobby, and a dollar that’s lost over 8% in value this year aren’t helping. Plus, when central banks realize the dollar can be used as a weapon, they start shopping for other options. Since 2000, the dollar’s share of global reserves has dropped from 70% to under 58%. It’s still the biggest game in town, but now it’s playing defense. Meanwhile, China and the BRICS crew are building their own payment systems. Japan, Korea, and Taiwan are hedging like it’s their full-time job. And everyone’s looking at gold like it’s the last stable character in a drama-filled cast.
