On 15 August 2025, we had the honor of receiving @hamse_warfa, former Senior Advisor to the United States Department of State, at my office. In his personal capacity, we engaged in candid and substantive discussions with multisectoral professionals on United States policies and strategies concerning the Horn of Africa and the wider East African region. The deliberations underscored the vital contributions of the Somaliland diaspora, the necessity of sustained engagement with both parties across the political spectrum, and the value of advancing incremental achievements and enhanced cooperation in the sphere of foreign policy. Furthermore, we reaffirmed the paramount importance of peace, stability, and regional economic integration as indispensable pillars for sustainable development. We also underscored the strategic relevance of the Red Sea maritime domain to the global security architecture, particularly with regard to the “What” and the “How”, and its integral role in advancing regional economic integration.

President Abdirahman Irro Convenes Strategic Dialogue with National Political Party Leaders His Excellency Dr. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Irro), President of the Republic of Somaliland, today convened a high-level consultative meeting at the Presidential Palace with the Chairpersons of the three National Political Parties: WADDANI, KAAH, and KULMIYE. This strategic engagement is part of the President’s ongoing efforts to deepen national consensus, safeguard political stability, and strengthen Somaliland’s democratic resilience during a period of critical national and regional significance. The meeting provided a frank and constructive platform to discuss the evolving political landscape, the imperative of preserving national unity, and the shared responsibility to confront external threats to Somaliland’s sovereignty and constitutional order. In his remarks, President Abdirahman Irro reaffirmed his government’s firm commitment to inclusive governance, principled dialogue, and institutional cooperation. He emphasized that the vitality of Somaliland’s democracy depends on sustained engagement among political stakeholders and collective stewardship of the national interest. The President further underscored the importance of regular, structured consultations between the executive branch and the official opposition parties—not as a matter of convenience, but as a cornerstone of the Republic of Somaliland’s democratic ethos and a guarantor of its long-term stability and credibility. The leaders of the three national parties commended the President’s leadership in fostering principled dialogue at this critical juncture. They affirmed their commitment to working collaboratively in safeguarding national cohesion, advancing electoral preparedness, and reinforcing the foundations of democratic governance. Moreover, the opposition parties expressed their willingness to support government initiatives aligned with the shared aspirations of peace, constitutional order, and sustainable national progress. The meeting condemned the continued and unlawful interference by the Federal Government of Somalia in the eastern parts of the Sool region—a blatant attempt to destabilize Somaliland and undermine its territorial integrity. These actions were characterized as provocative, irresponsible, and a direct challenge to the peace and order preserved by Somaliland through decades of self-governance. The Republic of Somaliland hereby reaffirms its sovereign right to defend its territory and institutions and calls on the international community to take a clear and principled stance against Somalia’s destabilizing conduct, which threatens not only Somaliland’s security but also the wider stability of the Horn of Africa. The meeting concluded with a renewed sense of unity and shared determination to protect Somaliland’s constitutional order, democratic progress, and sovereign dignity—through dialogue, responsible leadership, and unwavering commitment to the nation’s founding principles. President Abdirahman Irro Conducts Review Meeting with Director Generals The President of the Republic of Somaliland, His Excellency Dr. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Irro), today convened a quarterly strategic meeting with the Director Generals of all Ministries and Independent State Agencies. The session focused on evaluating institutional performance, reinforcing accountability, and accelerating the delivery of essential government services. In his opening address, President Abdirahman Irro called for a culture of results and responsibility across the civil service. He directed each institution to conduct a clear-eyed review of its recent performance — highlighting achievements, addressing shortfalls, and sharpening focus on immediate priorities. “Our citizens expect a government that is present, capable, and responsive,” the President said. “Leadership at every level must be defined by integrity, discipline, and measurable results.” President Abdirahman Irro emphasized strict adherence to public service standards — including enforcement of working hours, oversight of staff conduct, and improved coordination between institutions. He urged Director Generals to strengthen internal cohesion, eliminate inefficiencies, and foster a unified approach to national development. The President also reiterated his administration’s commitment to decentralization and people-centered governance. He instructed the Director Generals of Ministries and Agencies to align their operations with national priorities — including the expansion of public services, improved transparency, and deeper engagement with citizens. Senior officials — including the Chair of the Council of Director Generals and the Director Generals of the Presidency, Civil Aviation, Water Development, Agriculture, Good Governance Commission, and the Chairman of Civil Service Commission — expressed strong support for the President’s agenda. They pledged to intensify institutional effectiveness and uphold the values of the administration. Concluding the meeting, President Abdirahman Irro delivered a clear directive: lead with purpose, manage with fairness, and execute without delay. He reminded the attendees that the credibility of the government is judged not by rhetoric, but by impact, and that every institution must contribute meaningfully to the national interest.
