Superbly argued. Somalia’s claims over Somaliland aren’t just weak. They collapse entirely under basic legal scrutiny. Which raises an obvious question: if Mogadishu truly believed it had a legitimate case, why has it never taken it to the International Court of Justice? The answer is as clear as the silence.Because there is no binding legal instrument, no ratified agreement, and no internationally recognized basis to present. Instead, we get political statements dressed up as law, long on rhetoric, but empty of substance

Last month I visited Somaliland — an unrecognised country that could reshape Africa and the Middle East Its location in one of the world’s most contested geopolitical arenas has thrust its 35 year battle for recognition into the spotlight 🧵 @thetimes thetimes.com/world/africa/a…

If Somalia's government can mobilise thousands of troops, swiftly move heavily-armed Turkish-trained troops and hardware for nearly 200 km - over hostile territory - in a show of might and in a bid to forcibly dislodge a recalcitrant regional leader, the question arises: why not direct this lethal military might against Al-Shabaab? Why depend on Ugandan, Kenyan and Ethiopian troops?

@ZahraNomadic Wadankeenii muran aan loo baahnayn baa maalin walba taagan. This isn't necessarily and is putting a whole education system at risk. I think it is time presidential office intervenes.

Dr. Faadumo Osman has dedicated her life to #Burco community. I am extremely sad & angry to see how she is being treated. nothing is done to contribute to the public sector in #Burco while she who has done so much is mistreated & bullied. MOH needs to be held accountable!

@AdaliWarsame @MohamedAbdisam @Haamay25 She built the school using public lands and even moved the people previously occupying so that university compounds were established. Destroying a whole health edu. system is at stake here, and arguments should be resolved soon.

A former soldier would naturally deny any genocide in which he took part, yet what stands out as truly bizarre from this supposed Dr is his persistent effort to convince both himself and his audience that the Republic of Somaliland poses the real threat to the “Somali” ethnic group—while refusing to acknowledge any role he himself played in the genocide against Somalilanders.

One of the loudest moral pillars the separatists in Somaliland have leaned on is the horrific suffering of Hargeisa in 1988, but when Israel recognizes Somaliland and Somaliland rushes to celebrate, that entire narrative collapses under its own weight. How can anyone still claim “we were massacred, so we seceded” while openly embracing a state accused of genocide in Gaza, a state whose actions have wiped out entire families and erased whole neighborhoods? How do you preach victimhood while unleashing indiscriminate shelling and massacres on Laas Anod, and while turning a blind eye to the hundreds, if not thousands, killed by the SNM in Awdal and the inter-SNM wars that swallowed entire communities? Yes, the former military regime, where many of today’s Somaliland leaders once held power, committed brutal and unforgivable human rights violations during its clash with the SNM, but past suffering does not give anyone the moral license to tear apart the Somalia Republic. In the end, the sheer double standard, the selective memory, and the celebration of a power accused of genocide only reveal how shockingly hollow the biggest victimhood narrative truly is.

India, Israel, Somaliland, and the Reordering of Security Alignments in the Horn of Africa and Red Sea By @guiled2_gulaid horndiplomat.com/india-israel-s… "#India’s recognition of Somaliland emerges as a central strategic imperative in the Horn of Africa and Red Sea region. By formally recognizing Somaliland, India can anchor a counter-alignment with #Israel, the #UAE, #Ethiopia, and the United States, thereby stabilizing critical maritime chokepoints, preserving regional balance, and countering the operational reach of the #Turkey#Pakistan#Saudi alliance. UAE economic exposure is overwhelmingly Somaliland-based, not tied to Somalia. The largest UAE investment in the region is Berbera Port, ( even more than Djibouti ) operated by DP World — Somaliland infrastructure. —- Furthermore, this doesn’t even touch on daily flights, remittances, the large diaspora, B2B trade, hospitals, airports, commodities, and foreign exchange — all of which are heavily tied to Somaliland. The Berbera Corridor (Berbera–Hargeisa–Wajaale) is a UAE-backed logistics route aimed at Ethiopia — entirely within Somaliland. When people cite “UAE = 20% of the region’s FDI,” they ignore geography. In reality, 75% of that 20% comes from projects and investments in Somaliland alone. This proves the UAE is deeply connected to Somaliland—a partnership as strong and unbreakable as a wall. UAE & SOMALILAND 🤝

UAE–Somaliland relations are built on a strategic partnership driven by geography, economic cooperation, and security collaboration. Rooted in shared interests and regional stability, this mutually beneficial relationship remains unaffected by objections from Mogadishu.
