Post-Lecture Student Town Hall This platform will create space for structured reflection on the arguments raised during the week, with particular attention to student voices, civic responsibility, and the role of institutions in carrying Pan-African commitments into practical life. It is worth noting that the Town Hall will take place in the 50th anniversary year of the 16 June uprisings, a moment in which the fears, hopes, and aspirations of South Africa’s young people for a better future were sharpened into action. Rather than treating students as a closing audience, the Foundation and UNISA want this final engagement to operate as a site of response. It should ask what was heard during the week, what remains contested, and what obligations now fall on universities, students, the youth, women, public leaders, and citizens in renewing South Africa and reaching for the South African promise. The University of South Africa @unisa in partnership with the Thabo Mbeki Foundation @TMFoundation_ will host the 16th Annual Thabo Mbeki Africa Day Lecture and a wider week of Africa Day activities in Cape Town from 20 to 25 May 2026. The programme has been designed as a deliberate public weeklong activity rather than a single event. Moving across economic, constitutional, academic, diplomatic, and youth registers, it will allow Africa Day to function as a platform for serious reflection, coalition-building, and practical agenda-setting. #CelebratingAfricaMonth
