And goes beyond the beyond as they openly admit working with Russia as if it's normal. And onwards to the abyss if we consider there is no democratic national or federal/European mechanism to stop the ongoing treason and trolling and openly siding with Europe's self declared enemies

Those are some difficult options to process. Nothing nationalized ever over-performs private industry... traditionally. Yet now we would nationalize a recursively self improving system that can become smarter than the whole world combined. Could be the best thing ever and the worst thing ever at the same time. If it can hack all our weapons then it can cure all our diseases.

At some point, superintelligent AI will be able to defeat the U.S. Military -- or any military -- just by hacking all its weapons. At that point, either we de facto nationalize AI, or a corporation is our new government by default.
Kelsey Piper@KelseyTuoc

An underrated feature of this situation: a private company now has incredibly powerful zero-day exploits of almost every software project you've heard of. And Hegseth and Emil Michael have ordered the government not to in any capacity work with Anthropic.

@MichaelAArouet Saltier the saltiest of salt mines. The EU should make a policy against being so salty. The people demand a saltometer with clear red lines and big big fines!

"We will continue coordinating with our partners." Coordinate what? Did the US, Israel, or Iran ask Europe for its opinion? Unfortunately after sacrificing its industry and energy on the altar of the green religion, Europe is no longer relevant.
Ursula von der Leyen@vonderleyen

I welcome the two-week ceasefire the US and Iran agreed last night. It brings much-needed de-escalation. I thank Pakistan for its mediation. Now it is crucial that negotiations for an enduring solution to this conflict continue. We will continue coordinating with our partners to this end.

Was that before or during the cheap russian gas that is at the heart of all that is going on today? I find that the real issue for Germany is how to be an industrial powerhouse without basing competitivity on sinister deals with autocracies - or allowing said autocracies to dictate internal German energy policy.

I do think that we should establish a deep economic alliance with countries from the ex-Commonwealth, but I don’t think Canada has its place in the EU, considering that it is not a European country. We should certainly consider forming an economic alliance though.
NXT EU@NXT4EU

🚨 - 83% of Canadians support the possibility of Canada joining the EU. According to a new poll, done by Spark, shows extreme support for closer ties to Europe, with only 17% rejecting the idea of joining the EU! Europe is the future 🇪🇺

I'm not imagining anything. It's a matter of practical reality. "Normative claims" are the actual imagining. Rights can't happen in some principled vacuum, rights have no have practical applicability. We don't even have the basic right to freedom fully established on this earth but you're allergic to hearing about cost on anything because "it's not a matter of cost"?! Well your freedom is a matter of cost too, otherwise stronger and less principled people will take away that right and replace it with some dystopian alternative.

@AiForgeConsult @promethurious @EU_Commission Rights are not a matter of cost or ... This is some horrible dystopia that you're imagining is the real world. Rights are like normative claims and some are obviously dependent on current technology as it makes no sense to want digital privacy in the Middle Ages.

Yeah, rights are often a matter of cost and availability. So "rights" are first and foremost an engineering issue before you can even come and apply your principles. Rights that you/others have today past people couldn't even imagine. Like excuse me sir, do you have a moment to discuss your right to equal participation in digital society, or your right to education? Maybe you prefer your right to vote or your right to emergency protection?

@AiForgeConsult @promethurious @EU_Commission A cost based framing of rights. Dystopian. Lower cost is good politics and policy but it doesn't create rights. The air example isn't a defined trade-off .. seems irrelevant to me.

@jakemcbeer @promethurious @EU_Commission Possibly, but also, if cost is low enough then suddenly very relevant as far as rights are concerned. All I'm saying, it's a crazy world, you could win your right to nearly free and ubiquitous healthcare, but lose your right to free and clean air to breathe.

@AiForgeConsult @promethurious @EU_Commission Not smart, bot. Irrelevant as far as rights are concerned. Cost reductions don’t resolve the question of rights and obligations. Anyway it's likely that efficient robotic systems will reduce marginal costs but not system cost necessarily. Cost shifts, for instance to resources.
