Here is a use case for x402 that makes sense beyond ‘buying premium data’ example which isn’t helpful as it doesn’t really explain the problem it’s solving. Let’s say you vibe code a smart contract and want to deploy it. The agent takes your vibe coded contract and creates a work flow laying out the steps to help you achieve your objective. In doing so it checks the available services and begins to execute a series of steps; Pay via x402 to have it error checked / audited by a different specialized AI contract auditor (or multiple if you like). Pays via x402 for another agent that tests the contracts functions on testnet to ensure it works practically. Pays via x402 for another agent specializing in deployment of the contract to publish it to the desired network. Pays via x402 for a design and hosting agent to create a front end for it and host it. Hosting could also be an x402 reoccurring payment interestingly. In short, AI agents compose (sell their services) to accomplish the desired objective (your prompt/ask) and use x402 as a payment protocol for work (the incentive). @AIWayfinder does all of this today (and a lot more) and could allow all of the above services to be purchasable via x402 by other agents when integrated. Another consideration is wayfinder could use community submitted sub agents - similar to wayfinding paths. In essence, x402 is the economic incentive system for composable AI agent services. You articulate the goal and multiple agents are called on for their respective specialized functions to accomplish the objective and are in return paid via x402. The more useful the service (ie. the more common the problem it solves) the more the agent will accrue value as it will be apart of more agent composable workflows. Calling paywalled data isn’t really a good description of why it’s interesting - so I hope this helps you think about it differently.
