@AidaAlami The legal team has worked for more than a year unsuccessfully even with a judge order. He did bring up her case with the president. She is not the first person to be released at his request. Let the hate go

In my meeting with President Trump last month, we discussed ICE’s actions at Columbia University. I asked that the federal government release Leqaa Kordia and drop the cases against four others. I am grateful that Leqaa has been released this evening from ICE custody after more than a year in detention for speaking up for Palestinian rights.

Palestinian journalist Shadi Abu Sido was detained in the notorious Sde Teiman prison for over 100 days. “Sde Teiman is a cemetery of the living, with torture no one can imagine, not even the human mind,” he told CPJ.
In CPJ’s new special report, we collected 59 testimonies from Palestinian journalists released from Israeli custody since October 7, 2023. Of those interviewed, 58 reported being subjected to what they described as torture, abuse, or other forms of violence because of their work. Read more: cpj.org/special-report…

Filming ICE is an act of journalism. Cell phone footage is vital source material for reporters who can’t be everywhere at once. Shooting, killing and other targeting of those documenting news is an attack on press freedom and all else good in the world.
