Polluted air worsens lung and heart diseases. To reduce this risk, we can opt for clean cooking solutions like gas or electricity and avoid smoke from burning rubbish and cooking with charcoal/firewood. #BreatheCleanLiveHealthier

Why is tackling #AirPollution essential to #ClimateAction? As both are caused by burning fossil fuels, they share similar solutions. Cutting super pollutants offers one of the fastest, most effective ways to improve air quality & slow warming ⌛ bit.ly/4dpSnw8

#AirPollution in Kampala is driven by more than just vehicle exhaust. In this seminar, we explored new research using a Low-Cost Source Apportionment (LoCoSA) approach to better understand both the sources & health impacts of traffic-related air pollution. Key insights: 🚗 Most pollution is directly or indirectly linked to traffic 🌫️ Road dust is the largest contributor, exceeding 50% ⚠️ Air Pollution levels can reach 10–20× above @WHO guidelines 📽️Watch here 🔗youtu.be/OBt99DEJOEc

Discussions on #AirQuality innovation often emphasize devices. But as the field evolves, the focus is shifting toward the systems behind them. Can data systems scale, adapt & deliver insights reliably? In this research, we share lessons on how scalable, #OpenSource data systems can help bridge infrastructure gaps in low-resource settings by: 📊Handling large volumes of data 📈Integrating diverse data sources ⏱️Delivering timely, actionable insights Read more 🔗bit.ly/4bO9qtr

Cleaner air starts with better evidence. What stands out from our latest research in Kampala is not just that traffic drives #AirPollution, but how. Non-exhaust sources like road dust are emerging as major contributors. This challenges us to rethink our approach We need integrated approaches across: 🚍 Transport systems 🛣️ Road infrastructure 🏙️ Urban planning 🌿 Green spaces & dust control 📊 Data-driven decision-making Today’s seminar is an opportunity to align science with action. 📅 Tue, 17th March ⏲️11:00 EAT 🔗 bit.ly/4dmut7E

🔐 One lesson from our security work. Security shouldn’t start after something breaks. Using the STRIDE threat-modeling framework through the @github secure #OpenSource Fund, we now identify risks during system design, better safeguarding the #AirQuality data communities across Africa rely on. 🚦 MYTH: #AirPollution only affects people with asthma. ✅ FACT: Air pollution is a public health risk for everyone. Exposure to air pollution has been linked to heart disease, stroke, reduced lung function, and respiratory infections, even among healthy adults. In many cities, #TransportEmissions are a major contributor to urban air pollution. Reducing these emissions is critical to protecting public health and building healthier communities. @GAHP_Global

Small habits can create a big impact on the air we breathe. 🚘 Turn off your engine when waiting in traffic. 🚶 Walk short distances instead of driving. 🚲 Use a bicycle where possible. 🚐 Choose public transport when you can. Even reducing vehicle idling can significantly cut transport-related #AirPollution and help create healthier streets for everyone. What change can you commit to this week? @GAHP_Global

Happy #InternationalWomensDay Today, we celebrate the women shaping our communities in so many ways, in science, in leadership, in classrooms, in homes, and everywhere in between. We’re proud of the incredible women working to improve air quality and build healthier cities. We also recognise every woman whose work, voice, and care keep our communities moving forward every day. This year’s theme, #GiveToGain, reminds us that when women rise, communities thrive. #IWD2026
