بر اساس گزارش «وال‌استریت ژورنال»، نمایندگان جمهوری اسلامی به دولت ترامپ اعلام کرده‌اند که برای بازگشت به مذاکرات آتش‌بس شروطی بسیار سنگین مطرح کرده‌اند، شرایطی که به نوشته وال‌استریت ژورنال دستیابی به توافق را دشوارتر از هر زمان دیگری کرده است. افراد مطلع به این روزنامه گفته‌اند که سپاه پاسداران پس از تضعیف ساختار حکومت در ایران، نقش محوری در تعیین مواضع تهران ایفا می‌کند و درخواست‌های ایران شامل مواردی فراتر از چارچوب معمول مذاکرات است. از جمله این خواسته‌ها: «خروج کامل پایگاه‌های آمریکایی از خلیج فارس و تضمین بسته شدن آن‌ها؛ دریافت عوارض از ترافیک کشتی‌ها در تنگه هرمز، مشابه سازوکار مصر در کانال سوئز؛ تضمین پایان جنگ و توقف حملات اسراییل به حزب‌الله لبنانی، گروهی که تحت حمایت ایران قرار دارد؛ رفع تمامی تحریم‌ها علیه جمهوری اسلامی؛ حق ادامه برنامه موشکی ایران بدون هیچ‌گونه مذاکره برای محدودسازی آن.» یک مقام آمریکایی در واکنش خواسته‌های تهران را «نامعقول و غیرعملی» خواند. منابع آمریکایی و عربی گزارش داده‌اند که چنین مواضعی باعث شده دستیابی به توافق با ایران سخت‌تر از زمانی شود که ترامپ جنگ را آغاز کرد. وال‌استریت ژورنال افزود نخستین پیام‌های دور جدید دیپلماسی از سوی طرف‌های واسطه در تلاش برای کاهش تنش‌ها ارسال شده‌اند، اما شروط اعلام‌شده از سوی تهران موانع بزرگی در مسیر توافق آتش‌بس به‌وجود آورده‌ است.

Then it demands money from their families to return their bodies. And if those families dare to grieve, dare to demand justice, they are threatened with gang rape and then arrested. But with the reported 48-hour ultimatum regarding the Strait of Hormuz, I feel a moral and patriotic duty to issue a critical warning: Targeting Iran’s power plants and civilian infrastructure does not weaken the regime. It punishes the Iranian people. A nationwide blackout in Iran would hand the regime exactly what it wants, a propaganda victory. The IRGC thrives on blaming foreign enemies for the suffering it has created, redirecting public anger away from itself. It would also put millions of civilians at risk. Power outages mean hospitals shut down, water systems fail, and ordinary people who are already struggling under extreme economic pressure are pushed further into crisis. And it would weaken the very people standing up to this regime. A population fighting for basic survival in darkness and desperation has far less capacity to organize, protest, and resist. If the goal is deterrence or disabling the regime, then the target set must be clear and precise: IRGC command centers, missile infrastructure, and the regime’s security and repression apparatus. Disable the regime’s war machine, not the lives of the Iranian people. The Islamic Republic has held Iran hostage for decades.
