Flutterwave buys a jersey. Specifically, the @InterLagosFC jersey for the 2025/26 season, where the Send App by Flutterwave logo now sits. E-commerce startup, @KlashaBusiness, became the headline shirt sponsor for @SportingLagos, the football club owned by Paystack’s CEO, Shola Akinlade. And now, Flutterwave has joined the league of tech companies using sports as a distribution channel. Would we see more African tech companies do this? Yup, if they have the liquidity. My take: bigtechthisweek.com/p/flutterwave-…

Monday newsletter 🚨🚨 Funke Opeke is not taking her foot off the gas! She laid the cables that expanded internet access across West Africa, sold the company for $320 million, and she's only getting started. On building MainOne and her conviction behind it, she says, "I think I was probably a little bit insane" Read the story about how she founded the company responsible for Nigeria's largest tech acquisition: bigtechthisweek.com/p/funke-opeke-…

Big moves at Grey. 🚀 Iheakachi Nwabueze (@TheIheakachi) is now VP, Global Marketing & Growth, stepping up from Head of Global Marketing & Growth. After leading Grey’s expansion from West Africa to 70+ countries, she’s focused on building a fintech brand that resonates globally. Emmanuel Ben-Paul (@e_benpaul) is now VP, Design, rising from Head of Design. As the founding designer, he continues to shape how millions trust and move money on Grey through clear, reliable, and intuitive product experiences. Two well-deserved promotions at one of the most exciting fintechs out there right now. One clear signal: Grey (@greyfinance) is doubling down on growth and design as strategic leadership functions. Congratulations to both! 👏

Monday Newsletter 🚨 Title: Payments no get enemy, until PayPal. --- There are corporate blunders, and then there’s PayPal's re-entry to Nigeria. A  misfire so graceless, it managed to tank its own reputation and set one of Nigeria’s beloved fintech companies on fire at the same time. PayPal didn’t just return to Nigeria; it ghosted a generation, seized their funds, and doubled back years later without explanation. After a decade away, the company waltzed back into the market last month, armed with a Nigerian partner and no self‑awareness. Read here: bigtechthisweek.com/p/payments-no-…

Decide started earlier this year to help analyze data and give accurate conclusions. 💻By the end of last week, the startup racked in 3000 users, some who are paying. 4️⃣Not only that but SpreadsheetBench, a widely acknowledged reference for ranking AI performance in real-world problems ranked it 4th globally. 🤏🏾The startup is ranked most accurate right behind Noble Agent, Shortcut.ai and Qingqiu Agent. 👏🏾With no external funding and just 3 employees the startup recorded an 82.5% accuracy score, getting 330 out of 400 tasks right.

💸PayPal said “Hello Nigeria” late last year to major rejections from the public after its abrupt exit almost 2 decades ago like the avatar; ⬇️“When Nigerians needed them most, they vanished” 🤑But the reception of PayPal’s return did not deter the payments company. They partnered with Nigerian payment giant, Paga who just processed N17 trillion worth of transactions in 2025. 💳With this partnership, Nigerians can now receive money in Naira through PayPal via their Paga accounts. 🎉This is a full circle moment for Paga, as the company was built to fix PayPal’s exclusion. Is this a win or are you still unimpressed?

I'm genuinely curious about people's expectations of the video celebrating Paystack's 10th anniversary. What would have been the best outcome in the video? More Ezra photos in the video or Ezra in the 1:1 interviews? Keep in mind that Paystack terminated his employment, and Ezra implied in his blog that he would sue the company. There is bad blood. What could Paystack have done in this circumstance?

🚨 INKED: Tage Kene-Okafor to Terra Industries Deal signed, leading communications for Terra Industries — Africa’s largest drone factory, building the first defence technology prime on the continent. Ex-TechCrunch journalist, reporting on Africa’s tech and VC ecosystem, now Director of Communications at Terra Industries, creating the new blueprint for how African industrial startups command global attention.  Tage: “[I love] the clarity of mission we have and the opportunity to communicate that effectively."  He goes from documenting the continent’s most innovative startups to helping shape the narrative for one of its most consequential.  It’s the same storyteller. Higher stakes. From now on, we can expect sharper messaging and founder-led storytelling. CC: @ulonnaya

BIG SCOOP! 🚨 Africa’s defence technology startup, Terra Industries, @terraindustries, co-founded by @_KingNath and @Max_Sengu, has raised $11.75 million in seed funding — one of the largest seed rounds in Africa — to build autonomous defence systems in Africa. Backers: The round was led by US venture firm 8VC, founded by Palantir co-founder Joe Lonsdale. Alex Moore, a Board Director at Palantir, has joined Terra’s board. Off stealth: Terra’s just out of stealth mode, but the company already secures critical infrastructure valued at $11 billion across the continent.  Hardware power: The startup has built the largest drone factory in Africa, a 15,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Abuja, Nigeria. 2026 will be a big year in African tech, I can feel it! 🚀 @bigtechthisweek

I asked The Billionaire Chef, Chef Eros, about his GOAT Chef Story! Chef Eros: Four years ago, I realised it was time to export the culture and use FOOD as a medium to celebrate who we are as Nigerians and West Africans. I applied for the O-1 visa and told God to show me signs and wonders that will let me know this is truly what I am meant to be doing... And GOD DID✨✨✨✨
