A new study from researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, led by Prof. Abhijit Majumder, uncovers how strain fields produced by embedded inhomogeneities within biomaterials influence cell alignment, reshaping our understanding of cell behaviour in development, disease and tissue engineering. iitb.ac.in/research-highl…

Cells can sense mech cues. Bt can they sense pre-strain if soft tissue is deformed? Hw long can the signal travel? In our latest paper in @CellReports Phy-Sci, @Akshada2511 shows how rigid structures in soft gels may result into long-range (~40 cell length) patterning. (1/2)

Attention all scientists and researchers! Do you use Fetal Bovine Serum in your cell culture research? Are you tired of the high costs and ethical issues with FBS? More importantly....are you looking for an alternative? Introducing VitaPhil - a cost-effective and cruelty-free alternative to FBS. As part of our commitment to improving scientific research and animal welfare, we are excited to launch our beta program. For a limited time, we are giving away free VitaPhil for one year to eligible participants in exchange for feedback on the product. This is your chance to be among the first to try out VitaPhil and help shape its future development. Join us in paving the way for a more ethical and sustainable future in the cell culture industry. @Akshada2511 @abhijit_MLab @abandopa I've seen way too many engineering PhDs driving taxis and stacking shelves around the world. Unless you are lucky/enterprising enough, a PhD is waste of time for most. The skills that you cite are not uncommon among people. You were chosen for other reasons.

So true: Choosing a non-academic career doesn't mean leaving behind everything you learned as a researcher. The skills you developed while working & training in a lab are useful & valued in many roles.

@parresianz @abhijit_MLab @abandopa I have opposite experience. Many of my PhD colleagues are out of academia (including me). Everyone is valued because we have the skills to ask relevant questions, problem solving ability, team building capability. We are currently not doing what we did in our PhD. (Cont…)
