@Hokuto_Ide Yeah, "religion" is an extremely fraught term. Reading a book on it now, incidentally, how historically "religion" simply meant "religious duties," rather than a system of belief, as it's used today. The current term/concept as used is shockingly recent in origin.

仏教も宗教じゃなくて哲学だという話も聞いたことありますが寺はだいたい宗教法人で固定資産税払わなくて良いですし。そもそも「〇〇は宗教ではない」論は「宗教」という言葉についたネガティブなイメージを避けるための方便のような気もします。宗教学的に分類したらアニミズムも、汎神論も宗教です。

「神道は宗教じゃない」を建前に教会に神棚強制されてたキリスト教からするとこれはちょっと。宗教じゃないなら全国の神社の宗教法人格はずして固定資産税取るのかと言われると。そうでもないでしょう。逆にキリスト教は宗教じゃないイエスとの関係だという話もありますが多くの教会は宗教法人ですし。

何か外国の方が勘違いされてる様なのでハッキリしたいのですが日本は仏教の国ではありません。仏教は中国から伝わったもので、日本古来の宗教は「神道」です。もう一つ言わせて貰うなら「神道」は宗教ではなく、「道」なのです。この「道」と言う概念が理解できた人だけが正確に日本を理解出来るのです

@shagbark_hick @PaulNedelisky The word "Trinity" is a Latin term, yes. But God's "threeness," which is all the term means, is found all over Scripture. The exact doctrinal content was hammered out later, but threeness of God is found in Paul's epistles and the gospels numerous places.

And on Sunday worship, does the Bible not say to rest on the seventh day? Isn't the seventh day Saturday? So we are disobeying the 4th commandment unless a valid authority dispensed with this obligation.
As for John 6, would it change your view if those who formed the "post scriptural tradition" of Sunday worship all agreed that Christ meant "His Flesh" literally, and believed in transubstantiation? Why accept one "post scriptural tradition" (Sunday worship) and not another (transubstantiation), then?

The open secret is that the Bible actually isn't very hard to understand. Those who think they need an outside "decider" haven't realized this because--most likely--they aren't reading it for themselves.

@shagbark_hick @gadsbys_hymns Protestantism at its best has always said the Bible is to be read and interpreted in community. That includes across time and space. A useful check on the dangers of private interpretation--and we did acknowledge those. The Reformers quoted the church fathers quite heavily.

But at the end of the day, assuming we heard and share the same language, we either listened or we didn't.

Brian Jacques explains why he does not have sympathetic villains in his Redwall series:
"When I was a boy, morality was taught in school and in church but I think that is no longer true to the extent that it used to be. I try to create very clear moral signposts of what is right and what is wrong. The children who read my books are generally at an age where they need to have things spelled out in 'black and white,' without ambiguity. Art takes time. I'm told I make decent art, but don't get paid much for it.
See, there are 40 hours in a work week. If society wants artists to spend those hours making art, someone has to pay them or we will have to spend those hours cleaning toilets at Buc-ee's instead.
