@owenjonesjourno Have you run out of sniff? You’re looking almost normal today.

📍 It was clear from the outset that Voices for Freedom founders Claire Deeks and Alia Bland, flanked by their legal counsel Katie Ashby-Koppens, arrived at today’s hearing of the NZ Royal Commission of Inquiry into COVID-19 with a smug, self-assured confidence that their submission would land as a slam dunk. That confidence quickly unravelled when they put under intense scrutiny from Commissioner Grant Illingworth KC. The exchange below is just one example of the many defensive, ambiguous responses that exposed their refusal to take responsibility for verifying the accuracy of the information they promote. Their model is clear: amplify what fits their narrative, disclaim expertise when challenged, and offload the burden of discernment onto the public. It’s a strategy that allows them to shape discourse while dodging accountability for the credibility — or consequences — of what they disseminate. Frankly, dangerous and irresponsible.
