@TheRealKitty019 I don't think you realize how many timeless classics are "leftist stories." It's like all these people complaining about "woke" when much of popular culture has been "woke" for generations.

No, it’s because every explicitly lefty, progressive story is so dreadfully, abominably, fundamentally… boring. You guys don’t know how to write characters because you don’t know how people act; your ideology pigeon-holes everyone into “nazi” or “gay”, even heterosexual characters have to be gay-like or else they’re decried as being sexist. You’re all so sheltered from the kaleidoscope of human archetypes that you write ONE character and just tweak it slightly based on whatever arbitrary boxes they tick off. Your aesthetics are homogenous, all disgusting and covered in coats of neon paint, no sense for the style or purpose of visual media. You guys don’t understand, or perhaps more accurately hate, beauty and so your entire artistic identity centres around deconstructing and perverting it. And then worst of all, the plot. You always write the same fucking plot! Plucky band of misfits commit crimes but are heroes because the big bad fascists tell you to get a job and clean up your act. You can do whatever evil shit you want because you’re the heroes and they’re the bad men who tell you no. It’s all just impotent seething rage at a society that wants to continue functioning, despite your incessant tantrums. Nuance and complexity are always accidental, and get noticed by rightists who then just claim the villains because you cannot grok why people might like a character that’s been labelled “bad”. And all of this is why you fuckers latch onto and try to claim, try to steal, apolitical- or even baseline right wing- stories, games, movies, etc.; everything your side produces to reinforce its ideology is garbage, so inevitably the baseline adherents look to what’s good. But the good stuff isn’t made for your ideology, it’s made to be good, so you make up a load of headcanon bullshit to warp and twist, to rape the creation of someone else, and force it to represent you. Nobody is afraid of being convinced by your garbage because it can’t even convince those who already agree with it. Your shit actually just stinks.
Mini Modu@MinModulation

@KEMOgroyper Right wingers will avoid reading or watching or playing anything "woke* because they have the same paranoia over brainwashing, even fearing they'll become transgender if they watch "satanic subliminal sissy hypnosis". This isn't a partisan thing.

@JasonInTheHam @ImBreckWorsham The "a few weird chemical reasons" is our refinery infrastructure is designed to refine certain kinds of oil. What we export goes to places that are designed to refine it. That's kind of important.

@Theodosius2024 @BrianRoemmele I'd rather employ people and not run up electric and water bills while tying up resources that would be of better use elsewhere. There's nothing artistic about AI. It's just a waste of resources and another means for the tech bros to take more of our money.

@Al_1701 @BrianRoemmele That's not true on both accounts. It takes a person with a creative idea to input the prompts and then make the adjustments to the outputs to make the art. There are different levels of quality, some great, some not so much. But for something so new, the potential is insane.

@Theodosius2024 @BrianRoemmele Except the player of the synthesizer and electric guitars are playing music composed by a people. This contraption is playing music composed by people. The computer animator is creating images. AI is letting the computer do all the creative work (and usually do horribly at it).

@BrianRoemmele Using synthesizer and electric guitars to create music, or computers to make animation and then criticizing the use of AI is so blind to history. A painter from 1400s looking at the use of computers could have the same criticisms of moderns.

Notice how the vast majority of accomplishments on this list are pre-70’s/New Democrats. The only two “accomplishments” from the modern era listed are: -Obamacare: a band-aid on a gunshot wound at a time when the Dems had a supermajority in both Houses. Part of the reason it ended up that way was Obama leaning on Dems that wouldn’t vote for it without a public option, instead of the ones who wouldn’t vote for it with one. Rotating villain-a-go-go. -Gay Marriage: A better demonstration of why Dems have lost their base you couldn’t find than the fact that this was the only other thing from the past 50 years he could come up with-a parade that had long since gathered majority public support before Dems jumped out in front of it. The kicker is they all opposed it right up to the minute the polls told them it was safe to virtue-signal off the issue. Hooray for gay marriage, but when that’s all you’ve got, folks start to get the sneaking suspicion that’s all you have, and it ain’t enough.

The Democratic Party gave you: Social Security Medicare Medicaid Obamacare The 40 hour work week Women the right to vote The Civil Rights Act The Voting Rights Act Gay marriage The Fair Housing Act And so much more.... But sure, keep singing that same tired "Democrats ain't shit" song that Hasan Piker and the other communists and chaos agents taught you. It's not gonna make him want to bang you bro. It just keeps liberals divided so that you never have the unity or allies help you get the things you claim to want.

@SamaHoole A lot of it is pasteurization and vaccines. Much of what depressed life expectancy was childhood mortality. Vaccinating kids and providing them pasteurized dairy took surviving into adulthood from a coin flip to an almost certainty. And what is MAHA militantly against?

"Life expectancy has doubled since 1900, so clearly modern food is working." Yes. Brilliant point. Absolutely watertight. Tell me, when you picture a Victorian dying at thirty-eight, what do you think killed him? Was it the butter on his bread? Was it the lard in the pan? Was it the grass-fed mutton? The eggs from the yard? The unpasteurised milk straight from the cow he could see from the kitchen window? Or was it cholera, tuberculosis, dysentery, smallpox, sepsis from a splinter, childbirth in a room with no soap, a boiler explosion, a coal mine, a war, a workhouse, and the entirely reasonable medical practice of being bled by a man with a leech? We did not extend life expectancy by replacing his lard with sunflower oil. We extended it by inventing the toilet, the antibiotic, and the idea that surgeons might wash their hands occasionally. The margarine is doing nothing. The margarine is, if anything, slightly working against the project. The plumbing did the heavy lifting. Give the plumber a statue.

@Manservant_H @CitizenJaneSays @IHateItMost They're going on one week where gas eclipsed $5 in 2022 when it looked like Russia was going to subsume Ukraine and the oil business engaged in a bit of price gouging in preparation of the shock that would have caused. However, Ukraine repelled the offensive.

I’m paying close to $300 a tank to run my truck. And that’s not including gas for farm activity. I have a farm. I can’t haul any livestock ANYWHERE. Neither can my neighbors who have cattle. One of them sold all his cattle and he’s out of the business. I know many farmers who grow hay, wheat, pumpkin, corn, cattle and they’re going under. People do not understand how much trouble we are in as a country.

@Mayoveli "because the government decides" Yeah, that's communism. They decide what's best for you, your family, and your community. It's a dystopic approach that doesn't allow individualism. Look at real estate, China put 90% of their population in homes just to screw them over.

This cost them about $1 trillion. The truth is, you cannot build systems like this exclusively on the logic of profit. You cannot expect to break even in 20 or 30 years. Projects of this scale are built because the government decides they must exist to serve the people. And this is a problem with systems that are strictly, or overwhelmingly, capitalist. If you leave every problem in your society to the spontaneity of the market, some challenges are so large and so unprofitable that you will never have sufficient incentive to solve them.

A lot of liberal voters keep misunderstanding why so many of us on the left are not satisfied with “vote blue no matter who.” It is not because we do not understand how dangerous Republicans are. We understand it very clearly. We see what Trump has done. We see what Republicans have done through the courts, through state legislatures, through attacks on voting rights, civil rights, workers, immigrants, LGBTQ people, women, education, and basic democracy itself. The difference is that we are looking at the pattern. Every few years, Democrats tell people, “Vote for us because Republicans are dangerous.” Then Democrats get power, but instead of passing the kind of transformative policies that would materially change people’s lives, they govern cautiously, protect the status quo, and tell struggling people to be patient. Then people remain broke. Rent keeps going up. Groceries keep going up. Healthcare is still too expensive. Student debt is still crushing people. Wages are still too low. Billionaires and corporations keep getting richer. People lose faith. Voters get angry, discouraged, or stay home. Then Republicans come back into power even more extreme than before. And then the same cycle starts all over again. This is what the left is trying to explain. We are not asking for more because we are spoiled. We are asking for more because the bare minimum is not stopping fascism. Fear alone cannot be the entire strategy. You cannot keep telling people democracy is on the line while refusing to use power in a way that makes democracy worth believing in. If Democrats want people to keep showing up, they have to do more than say Republicans are worse. They have to prove that when they get power, they will fight for working people with the same urgency that Republicans fight for billionaires, corporations, judges, and control. Because if Democrats keep winning power and failing to deliver transformative change, the country will keep swinging back to Republicans. And if it is not Trump, it will be someone just as bad, or worse. That is the pattern. That is why the left pushes so hard. Not because we do not care about stopping Republicans, but because we understand that the only way to stop them long-term is to actually improve people’s lives.

Al Gore didn't shift to predicting an ice age. He warned about AMOC collapse — the Atlantic circulation system that keeps Europe and North America warm. If it slows or fails, those regions get colder. Regionally. Temporarily. While the planet keeps warming. This is like saying a doctor "shifted positions" because they warned that a fever can cause chills. The physics hasn't changed. The planet is still warming. 2024 was the hottest year ever recorded. 2026 is forecast to break that record. The oceans are at all-time high temperatures right now. You don't get to mock the science because you don't understand the mechanism.
