@marcthiessen Cringeworthiness of the worst kind. Belittling, bullying, excruciating, miserable, rude, insulting And deeply, deeply unfunny, witless, crass and charmless. Courtesy of a country with a certain reputation for humour, please understand- this is pure vomit.

When I worked in the bakery supply trade, I used to answer my work mobile in unusual (daft) ways. Such as, "Battersea dogs home, duty Alsation speaking!" Normally got a laugh but when I answered the work mobile with, "Paul's brothel, where the customer comes first!" my new managing director was NOT amused! Luckily his secretary said "oh that's just Paul. Customers love him" and I kept my job. 😂😂

@BohuslavskaKate Report from Maxim Tucker in The Times today claims the US & Gulf states launched almost as many Patriots in 4 days than were made available to Ukraine in 4 YEARS.!! Hopefully, Ukraine staff are helping sort out the middle east right now.

Hegseth: "We're still dealing with the environment Joe Biden created—depleting our stockpiles and sending them to Ukraine instead of our own military. Every time we face a challenge, it traces back to 'Well, sent it to Ukraine.'" It looks like they’re just going to blame Ukraine whenever anything goes wrong now, doesn’t it? It’s depressing to watch because while this administration will eventually leave office, a segment of Americans will keep hating Ukraine without even remembering why.

@marcthiessen They used to be top allies. That's the extent to which Trump cannot be trusted. No one know where they are with him. Oh and you might well add Japan to that list after today's insult. Peak fuckwittery.

@johnkonrad If folk don't care about the war & murder of girls in school etc they are morally bankrupt- not a lot Europe can do however we act? The problem is the World never trusts Trump. We are relying on sane Americans to dump him.

Dear Europe, I know you feel outrage. I have talked to many of you on the phone. I know politicians and media on both sides of the Atlantic are furious. I attended a conference with mostly Europeans. The worry and frustration was palpable. I get it too. You are dependent on Middle East oil and aluminum and fertilizer and shipping and LNG. Dubai is a vital travel hub for you. Vital. But don’t worry. Trump will lose the midterms and Congress will flip and side with you. Or maybe not… I live in the bluest town in the bluest state, where protests are practically a seasonal sport. I drove over eight hours across New England this week past the usual corners where outrage normally lives. This time? Nothing. Left, right, center. I’m hearing almost no one talk about this war. MAGA doesn’t even care. Ask someone and you’ll get the expected talking points. But in coffee shops, kitchens, real life? Silence. Hard truth: most Americans just don’t care. And since the weather warmed, not a single keffiyeh in sight. So when Trump says you need to go protect the ships and airports that are vital to YOU, I think he means it. Because the vast majority of Americans don’t care. And it’s not that we want to see you spin into an energy and food shortage. It’s that even the most TDS-inflicted liberal American is getting tired of your BS. Hating Trump is one thing. Almost half of America is OK with that. But your anti-American vitriol and arrogance and weakness is exhausting. Nobody likes a needy person who is angry and thinks they are better than you. It’s literally the worst combination in a person. And you might not want to admit it, but you are needy. You need us to reopen Hormuz. You need our banks and our markets. You need a lot. “We will not participate in this war” is fine. Nobody is asking you to bomb civilians. What’s weak is you won’t surge defensive missiles and planes to protect European-owned ships and property. When exactly did defense make you a participant? Defense of innocent life and property isn’t a “war crime.” And you DO own the majority of ships getting attacked. Ships that you are unwilling to defend maybe because you outsource the labor to Indonesia, the Philippines, and Ukraine. You are the wealthy lords who abandoned the mansion but told the help to stick around and defend it. So you might want to send a few warships and missile defense units to protect YOUR property. Or at least leave them at anchor and send the innocent crews home. You want us to defend the Strait because we started this mess? That’s reasonable. Problem is the reaction from most of America to your demands is: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@MsAvaArmstrong Hello Ava. The small % of Muslims living in the UK are Sunni. They have no time for Iranian (non-Arab) Shia. Think more about US failed wars in Iraq, Afghanistan etc that resulted in increased immigration to EU. Perhaps the US should apologise for this?

France and Spain are almost Muslim countries already. Great Britain will be next. I hope that the next time they are threatened by an enemy, like in WWI and WWII, that whoever is President reminds them that they would not help the U.S. from trying to eliminate a nuclear threat to all of Europe.

@Churchill4wit @robertcobrien The oil supply chain was working fine until Trump had his 'gut feeling for war. Also, the clue is 'NATO' - the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation. Not the 'tally ho follow me into Iran or else, offensive. Also, the Budapest Memorandum makes Ukraine your war!

Actually — it is — YOUR oil supply chain. Unlike Ukraine which certainly is not our war. The tectonic plates of history shift. No alliances last forever. NATO has run its course. It’s useless to the US. Allies are measured by their capabilities and willingness. Europe has neither. I take those glorious bastard Israelis any day over the European amoebas.

This is a critical moment for the Atlantic Alliance & the Special Relationship. The Euros & Brits reticence to support the USA & Israel, the bulwarks of the "Free World" or "West", against an evil Iran, reinforces every negative sentiment & stereotype about the value of these allies.
Hugh Hewitt@hughhewitt

When @LindseyGrahamSC and other Reagan conservatives voice doubts over value of “European allies,” the moment is at hand for Europe to choose. I hope they do so wisely.

Just spoke to @POTUS about our European allies’ unwillingness to provide assets to keep the Strait of Hormuz functioning, which benefits Europe far more than America. I have never heard him so angry in my life. I share that anger given what’s at stake. The arrogance of our allies to suggest that Iran with a nuclear weapon is of little concern and that military action to stop the ayatollah from acquiring a nuclear bomb is our problem not theirs is beyond offensive. The European approach to containing the ayatollah’s nuclear ambitions have proven to be a miserable failure. The repercussions of providing little assistance to keep the Strait of Hormuz functioning are going to be wide and deep for Europe and America. I consider myself very forward-leaning on supporting alliances, however at a time of real testing like this, it makes me second guess the value of these alliances. I am certain I am not the only senator who feels this way.

@DrChrisParry Err Chris, did Britain start an iffy war in 1939? Churchill spent 2 years begging US commitment. In the end Germany declared war on the US. I'm sure you know we finished paying off the US in 2006. The simple reason: EU leaders don't trust Trump.

So, if the US had said 1939 - 41, 'it's not our war' and not helped Britain survive in the North Atlantic, including escorting our merchant ships, getting its own sailors killed and its ships sunk, how would it have gone for us? Also, when the Iranians were attacking shipping in the Red Sea recently through their proxies, the Houthis, with missiles and drones from Iran, an international warship effort was put together to protect the transit of shipping, even though the Europeans largely, but not exclusively, took cover under the US protective umbrella.

@notenyourlife @Amockx2022 @KingKong9888 'Authoritarian' doesn't square with Starmer not being sure about joining the war, Dwight. I think the opposite- he's a lawyer, in thrall to international law, wary of his MPs and is ponderous and indecisive. Many U turns. In a democracy this happens.

When Trump leaves office: The Department of War will go back to being the Defense Department. The Trump Kennedy Center will go back to being the Kennedy Center. The Gulf of America will once again be the Gulf of Mexico. The unfinished East Wing (it won't be finished by the end of Trump's term) will be rebuilt by the next president, and it will not be a ballroom. Federal agencies packed with unqualified loyalists will fire those people and rehire the career experts Trump fired. The Department of Justice will go back to enforcing the law instead of protecting the president. Scientific agencies like NOAA, the EPA, and the CDC will go back to publishing research without political interference. The U.S. will re-align with its allies and not with its enemies. The presidential pardon power will stop being used as a rewards program for loyalists. Inspectors General will go back to investigating corruption instead of getting fired for it. The White House press room will go back to having briefings, with real journalists and not podcasters. U.S. foreign policy will stop revolving around flattering dictators. And the world will progress as though Donald Trump never existed.

“I don’t think the European countries are going to come and bail out of this mess. You have to think about the context here. Trump just spent a year hurting their economies on purpose, threatening to attack NATO, threatening to pull out of NATO. And then the Trump administration started this war without even bothering to consult them, didn’t take their interests into account until he needed them. And their populations are at historic levels of anti-Americanism because of how we’ve treated them over the last year.” “And they are democracies, so I don’t think their leaders are going to be able to overcome that. And why would they? It’s much easier, and you’ll see a bunch of countries doing this, to negotiate with the Iranians. The Iranians are setting up a system whereby they let the ships pass that they want to let pass. Just in the last 24 hours, they let several ships pass for countries that they’re not at war with. So if you were any country in the world, depending on this Strait, it’s much easier to make a deal with the Iranians than to send your ships down the Strait, to make them sitting ducks for Iranian drones and missiles, which seems crazy reckless.”

🚨 HOLY SMOKES. President Trump just EVISCERATED American "allies" refusing to help the US secure the Strait of Hormuz, openly MOCKS them "Do you have any minesweepers? 'Well, we'd rather NOT get involved, sir!' I said, you mean for 40 YEARS we're protecting YOU and you don't want to get involved in something that is very minor?!" "Very few shots going to be taken because they don't have many shots left." "But they said, 'we'd rather not get involved!'" "We'll protect them! If ever needed, they WON'T BE THERE FOR US.
