On our way out to the coast- again- just had to stop and visit this cute little Art Deco bungalow in Enderby, BC. It’s listed for sale at 699K.

2/2. An exciting part of travelling by car through BC in 1928 would be the opportunity to load your car for the ride on the steamer from Kuskonook to Nelson. Today’s much shorter ferry trip from Kootenay Bay to Balfour just isn’t the same.

1/2 With spring in the air, are you now making plans for a road trip? In 1928, @calgaryherald published a Trans Continental Highway map which showed the “most popular” all-Canadian route to drive from #YWG to #YVR. It’d be an adventure! #YYC

In 1936, the Home Builders Lumber Co of Vancouver placed a series of ads in the Calgary Herald, encouraging anyone interested to send away for their free plan book of homes and farm buildings. Shown here is The Moderne, which is the only home of that style to appear in the book.

70 years ago today, a transcontinental legend arrived in Canada. On April 24, 1955, Canadian Pacific Railway unveiled The Canadian — a gleaming streamliner that stitched together the vast beauty of Canada from coast to coast.

In 1967, there were still some pre-WW1 houses standing in Chinatown, including 4 on 2nd Ave SE. Today, all are gone, and just a single rooftop remains of what was once Hull’s Terrace.

@greg_gerla Ran out of room, and even so, this is still a greatly-abridged history. The Danish Canadian Club’s been there since 1964. Before Kits opened in the east section, Nordic Travel occupied that spot.

@greg_gerla The old buildings have some stories to tell. The west section dates back to 1912, when it was a car showroom and garage. In 1933, Greyhound moved in. Later, Fairbanks Morse; rebranded as the Fairmore in 1962. That same year, a “teen-age night club” opened on the 2nd floor.

This is The Fairmore Building, 725-11th Ave, SW. #yyc Recently the location of Kit Interior Objects, it’s now empty. I love the Deco/MCM design of its entrance. I tried to find some info about its origin, but couldn’t find anything. Maybe @AlanZakrison can help?

@NancyJWay @cmcalgary @calstampeders No, it’s on the east side of Elbow Drive, about 30th Ave. Gerry Shaw Garden is just south of Lowes Garden, named for real estate developer Freddie Lowes, whose house was once there. The park that contains these gardens was named after Colonel JH Woods, who donated the land.

Found the coolest little park today, along Elbow Drive. Gerry Shaw Garden. Looks like it would be a really decent place to do a spooky photoshoot! • 3202 Elbow Dr SW #yyc
