A Grateful Heart

The hamper overflows with dirty laundry—socks stiff with grass stains, shirts scented of sweat and sun—
and my heart swells, full and steady,
for this is the quiet proof of a family I care for.
Lives woven into mine, needing me as I need them.
Dishes crowd the sink, plates crusted with gravy,
glasses ringed with milk, forks tangled like laughter—
yet gratitude rises warm in my chest,
because these are the remnants of a table surrounded, a family gathered close, voices overlapping.
Stories spilled between bites.
Little hands tug at the hem of my dress, sticky fingers insistent, pulling me downward—
I kneel, and my heart opens wider,
for this is the sweet weight of being needed, of a family blessed to love fiercely. Small palms reminding me I am their center.
Dirty little faces streak with mud and joy, cheeks flushed from chasing wind and wonder—
I wipe them clean with a corner of my sleeve,
and thankfulness floods me, bright and boundless,
for these are healthy children playing wild under open sky.
Proof that life runs strong and free through our home.
Books lie open on every table, pages dog-eared, pencils scattered like fallen leaves, questions spilling endlessly—
“Why does the sky change color?” “How do seeds know to grow?”
And my heart brims over, tender and vast, for these are little inquisitive minds unfolding.
Homeschooling days rich with discovery, growing bright and bold in the shelter of our love.
In every mess, every tug, every smudge, every wondering “why,”
I find the same truth glowing:
A heart made great by ordinary miracles.
Overflowing with love for this loud, imperfect, perfect family of mine.
