We have lawsuits.” Quinn argued that requiring publishers to support private servers after official servers shut down would create legal and safety concerns. “Those servers could be insecure, they could expose consumers to all kinds of illicit content, including child sexual abuse material.” In a statement sent to PC Gamer after the hearing, the ESA added: “Private servers infringe on the intellectual property (IP) rights of game publishers. Publishers reserve the right to exercise their rights against them.”
