Yefet Cohen, Samaritan communal leader and the curator of the Samaritan museum speaking to Pavel Bernstein: "The Most High chose the name - Israel (Jacob). Israel doesn't [exclusively] belong to the Samaritans, nor to the Jews. There is no Samaritan religion, just as really, there is no Jewish religion. We are [both] the Nation of Israel."

History Speaks@History__Speaks

To be clear, Jacob has absolutely no clue on what the consensus view of the Samaritan community is are on Ashkenazi Jewish indigeneity. He just posts a hearsay anecdote about what a Jewish person said 'all the Samaritans were saying' in 1967, and claims to speak for all of them. The NYT in 2021 reported on about the nuances of Samaritan identity; a Samaritan they interviewed said he identified as a Palestinian and an Arab growing up, but came to strongly support Israel because he believes Israel preserves the existence of the Samaritan community. The NYT mentioned both Samaritan Likud voters and Samaritan members of the PLO. nytimes.com/2021/08/22/wor…. The general tenor of the article is that the Samaritans seem to have more cultural similarities with the Palestinians, but are treated well by Israel and many see support for the state as being in their interest. Regardless, it appears that the community straddles both sides of the Israel-Palestine conflict, and its views cannot be summed up in the reductive and frankly disrespectful manner Jacob attempts to. If one wanted to figure out what Samaritans think about these issues, one would have to carry out a detailed anthropological study, not just meme.

@HomerPavlos Is she a good actress? Does he know of her? How would it sound if she was the only one with a Greek accent in the film?

Christopher Nolan could have cast Doukissa Nomikou, a Greek actress and model. In 2015, she performed in the Greek theatrical production "Trojan War", in the role of Helen, the Queen of Sparta known as "Beautiful Helen". But, he decided to destroy his own career.

@sonehabriot @mo_shawki2 @DenialLaw It does exist as an Ashkenazi surname with the Ashkenazi Hebrew pronounciation of Mizrokhi/Mizrukhi. If not married name, then it was changed to Mizrachi in Modern Israeli Hebrew. Of course, he could've also met a Krymchak and assumed they were Ashkenazi.

@imlucky138 @mo_shawki2 @DenialLaw Given that the rare case of this surname (Mizrokhi/Mizrukhi) is found among Eastern Ashkenazim, that would be a little redundant

@mo_shawki2 @DenialLaw I wanna be that nerd originally Mizrahi and Mizrahi refered to eastern europe. Even till this day it is sometimes used by religious jews. Also the last named "Ashkenazi" and "French" is very common among Mizrahi jews funnily enough

@JoshRainerGold This is 2 years of gym progress with a deliberate diet. People do look like this. They just don't post it on social media because it's considered unimpressive now.

These people were not skinny they were lean and athletic with good muscle tone, bone structure, and posture. They don’t really exist anymore due to modern food and weightlifting trends so people now are either very muscular, very skinny, or fat. This is normal and healthy.

@mrwittmayer If you ever watch old film reels a lot of the men seem to be incredibly skinny by modern standards This has led me to believe that being "twinkish" is actually the more normal and natural way for a man to be. Thoughts?

(1) I'm not Israeli (2) DNA Tests are not illegal in Israel - this is such a tired and debunked talking point (3) I'm not Jewish - my DNA Test says mostly Italian & Spanish (but also Mexican, Indigenous American, & some Anglo-Saxon)

@nick_matau What does your dna test say? Oh wait that’s illegal in Israel

@nick_matau DNA tests are not illegal in Israel, but they are heavily regulated. Israel governs genetic testing through the Genetic Information Law of 2000, which balances citizen privacy with medical research needs, rather than banning the tests outright.

And do you know who else is often mistaken for a Jew?! Palestinians 😆. You ever watch the Israeli TV series “Fauda”? It’s about Israeli spies (mainly Mizrahim I’m guessing) who go undercover in Palestinian society to infiltrate terror networks. It’s based off the exploits of a real counter terrorism unit-the Mista’arvim. If Palestinians and Jews didn’t look much the same, this tactic would have never worked!!

@KingofStankonia @avidseries @bigmonkeong When you manage to find the rare apolitical middle easterner, they'll affirm this observation After all, almost every Christian Levantine I've spoken to in the west has been confused for a Jew. This is a less common phenomenon for Muslims.

Perfectly explained! By the way, what she says about changing last names is true. My grandfather from my dad's side's name was Reichler. My father changed our last name to Raveh. From my mom's side, the last name was Schreiber, which means writer in German. My mom's brother changed his last name to Sofer, which is Hebrew for writer. Both their European names were "acquired" generations back when their Shtetls (Jewish village) were forced to do so.

@irasiegel @HamasAtrocities To be fair, there were separate calls for Jews specifically to adopt surnames (i.e Russian Empire 1804).

@HamasAtrocities "European names were 'acquired"' generations back when their Shtetls (Jewish village) were forced to do so." To be clear, European countries forced their entire populations to adopt family names. So, Jews in that regard were treated equally with their county neighbors.

Surnames among Jews in the Russian Empire were given by what used to be local Jewish partly-subautonomous administrative bodies in the Polish-Lithuanian commonwealth (Kahals). Some of these Kahals really liked Yiddish/Germanic names; others didn't. These patterns varied geographically within the Pale of Settlement

Please provide evidence - last thing I want to do is place doubt on Jews. I don't know if you think you're helping, but from where I'm sitting, all this accomplishes is underscoring the antisemitism these people faced. After all, they could've just bribed themselves out of it or did some other easy change, right? I'm only aware of those in sufficiently high positions having this option. If you have a sample of 4 and demonstrate it on them alone using DNA tests, I'm sure funding can be gathered to test a large sample and it'll be a mitzveh for everyone, including the government, to reconsider how it classifies such people.

I’ve had several people (rightly) call me out on the fact that non-Jewish Russian Olim DO integrate. More than willing to accept I’m wrong here, but I think it misses the larger part of what I was saying: It is not good or desirable for Israel to import non-Jews with no connection to Am Yisrael, whether they integrate or not.

Just sharing my comment I posted on the orange website here because while a trivial point in the overall argument it is presented as an empirical analysis of Israeli society
